The HREA project aims to provide open access to new indicators of electricity access and reliability across the world. Leveraging satellite imagery with computational methods, these high-resolution data provide new tools to track progress toward reliable and sustainable energy access across the world. This dataset includes settlement-level measures of electricity access, reliability, and usage for 89 nations, derived from nightly VIIRS satellite imagery. Specifically, this dataset provides the following annual values at country-level granularity: 1. **Access**: Predicted likelihood that a settlement is electrified, based on night-by-night comparisons of each settlement against matched uninhabited areas over a calendar year. 2. **Reliability**: Proportion of nights a settlement is statistically brighter than matched uninhabited areas. Areas with more frequent power outages or service interruptions have lower rates. 3. **Usage**: Higher levels of brightness indicate more robust usage of outdoor lighting, which is highly correlated with overall energy consumption. 4. **Nighttime Lights**: Annual composites of VIIRS nighttime light output. For more information and methodology, please visit the HREA website.

Energy projects are being implemented in humanitarian contexts across the globe. These excel spreadsheets include all known past and present energy projects that have taken place in refugee camps, IDP communities, and other crisis-affected populations throughout the world, and were collected by the Global Alliance for Clean Cookstoves on behalf of the Safe Access to Fuel & Energy (SAFE) Humanitarian Working Group. To view full descriptions of the projects represented here, please visit www.safefuelandenergy.org/where-we-work. This project listing was created as part of an effort to enhance coordination of activities, encourage collaboration, and share knowledge between organizations working on Safe Access to Fuel and Energy (SAFE) in humanitarian settings. Projects included in this database are those that improve access to fuel or energy for cooking, lighting, heating, or powering among crisis-affected populations. By crisis-affected populations we mean refugees, internally displaced people (IDPs), or those affected by natural disaster or prolonged conflict. Examples of applicable energy interventions include providing solar lighting, manufacturing and/or distributing cookstoves and fuels, setting up mini grids for camp electrification, establishing and managing woodlots for fuel provision and environmental protection, improving protection mechanisms for women during firewood collection, and many others, provided they take place among crisis-affected populations. The SAFE Humanitarian Working Group is a consortium of partners including UNHCR, FAO, WFP, the Global Alliance for Clean Cookstoves, the Women's Refugee Commission, International Lifeline Fund, Mercy Corps, UNICEF, and other agencies. If you know of additional energy projects that are not shown here, please contact us at info@safefuelandenergy.org.

The number of distinct, publicly-trusted TLS/SSL certificates found in the Netcraft Secure Server Survey (by hosting country).
Combustible renewables and waste comprise solid biomass, liquid biomass, biogas, industrial waste, and municipal waste, measured as a percentage of total energy use. The indicator expresses the share of total energy supply.
Renewable electricity is the share of electricity generated by renewable power plants in total electricity generated by all types of plants.
Losses due to electrical outages, as percentage of total annual sales. The value represents average losses for all firms which reported outages (please see indicator IC.ELC.OUTG.ZS).

The percent of firms experiencing at least one bribe payment request across 6 public transactions dealing with utilities access, permits, licenses, and taxes.
The share of electricity production from coal sources of total electricity production. Sources of electricity refer to the inputs used to generate electricity. Coal refers to all coal and brown coal, both primary (including hard coal and lignite-brown coal) and derived fuels (including patent fuel, coke oven coke, gas coke, coke oven gas, and blast furnace gas). Peat is also included in this category.
B-READY focuses on ten topics that are organized following the life cycle of the firm and its participation in the market while opening, operating (or expanding), and closing (or reorganizing) a business. The Utility Services topic measures the effectiveness of regulatory frameworks, and the quality of governance and transparency of service delivery mechanisms, as well as the operational efficiency of providing electricity, water, and internet services. The second pillar of the topic measures the quality of governance and transparency in the provision of utility services, thus assessing the de facto provision of utility services.
The share of electricity production from oil sources of total electricity production. Sources of electricity refer to the inputs used to generate electricity. Oil refers to crude oil and petroleum products.
The share of electricity production from hydroelectric sources of total electricity production. Sources of electricity refer to the inputs used to generate electricity. Hydropower refers to electricity produced by hydroelectric power plants.
Electric power transmission and distribution losses include losses in transmission between sources of supply and points of distribution and in the distribution to consumers, including pilferage. The losses are expressed as a share of the total output.
The share of electricity production from nuclear sources of total electricity production. Sources of electricity refer to the inputs used to generate electricity. Nuclear power refers to electricity produced by nuclear power plants.
Percentage of firms that experienced power outages over the last complete fiscal year.
The share of electricity production from renewable sources of total electricity production. Electricity production from renewable sources, excluding hydroelectric, includes geothermal, solar, tides, wind, biomass, and biofuels.
Fixed broadband subscriptions refers to fixed subscriptions to high-speed access to the public Internet (a TCP/IP connection), at downstream speeds equal to, or greater than, 256 kbit/s. This includes cable modem, DSL, fiber-to-the-home/building, other fixed (wired)-broadband subscriptions, satellite broadband and terrestrial fixed wireless broadband. Electric power consumption measures the production of power plants and combined heat and power plants less transmission, distribution, and transformation losses and own use by heat and power plants.
Fossil fuel comprises coal, oil, petroleum, and natural gas products.
Net energy imports are estimated as gross imports less gross exports, both measured in tons of oil equivalents (toe). A negative value indicates that the country is a net exporter. Energy use refers to use of primary energy before transformation to other end-use fuels, which is equal to indigenous production plus imports and stock changes, minus exports and fuels supplied to ships and aircraft engaged in international transport.
Renewable energy consumption is the share of renewable energy in total final energy consumption.
The share of electricity production from oil, gas and coal sources of total electricity production. Sources of electricity refer to the inputs used to generate electricity. Oil refers to crude oil and petroleum products. Gas refers to natural gas but excludes natural gas liquids. Coal refers to all coal and brown coal, both primary (including hard coal and lignite-brown coal) and derived fuels (including patent fuel, coke oven coke, gas coke, coke oven gas, and blast furnace gas). Peat is also included in this category.
