Satellite Detected Water Extent in the Sanamxay District, Attapeu Province, Lao PDR

This map illustrates the satellite-detected water extent in the District of Sanamay, Attapeu Province, in the southwestern part of Lao People's Democratic Republic after the tropical storm SONCA-17. The UNITAR-UNOSAT analysis used a Sentinel-1 satellite image acquired on the 30 July 2017 and detected several areas with potentially standing waters. In the district of Sanamxay ~5,225 ha are likely flooded. This is a preliminary analysis and has not yet been validated in the field. Please send ground feedback to UNITAR-UNOSAT.

Lao People's Democratic Republic: IBTrACS Storm Tracks

The International Best Track Archive for Climate Stewardship (IBTrACS) project is the most complete global collection of tropical cyclones available. It merges recent and historical tropical cyclone data from multiple agencies to create a unified, publicly available, best-track dataset that improves inter-agency comparisons. Fields available: SID: A unique storm identifier (SID) assigned by IBTrACS algorithm. ISO_TIME: Time of the observation in ISO format (YYYY-MM-DD hh:mm:ss) BASIN: Basin of the current storm position SUBBASIN: Sub-basin of the current storm position NATURE: Type of storm (a combination of the various types from the available sources) NUMBER: Number of the storm for the year (restarts at 1 for each year LAT: Mean position - latitude (a combination of the available positions) LON: Mean position - longitude (a combination of the available positions) WMO_WIND: Maximum sustained wind speed assigned by the responsible WMO agency WMO_PRES: Minimum central pressure assigned by the responsible WMO agency.

Agricultural Typologies - Combination of yield gap with poverty rates - Lao PDR

The combination of yield gap and poverty rates into a single map enables to identify best feasible modalities for agricultural development, potential investment, and resource allocation. - Yield gap provides important information for identifying causes of food insecurity and addressing rural poverty. Yield and production gaps have been estimated by comparing at a spatially detailed level of 5 arc-minutes the agro-ecological attainable yield and production of 22 major crops/crop groups, simulated under the historical climate of 1981-2010, with actual yields and production obtained by downscaling for the years 2000 and 2010 statistical data of main food, feed, and fiber crops. - The poverty map portrays poverty rates at the country level. Accordingly, the higher percentage of poverty in a particular area, the poorer population is located there. **Data creation:** 2022-03-22 **Contact points:** Metadata Contact: [FAO-Data](mailto:fao-data@fao.org) Resource Contact: [Maribel Elias](mailto:maribel.elias@fao.org) **Data lineage:** lineage statement Major data sources, FAO GIS platform Hand-in-Hand and OpenStreetMap (open data) including the following datasets 1. Crop Storage Final Location: Cassava (Lao PDR - ~ 1000 m)

The raster dataset represents top location score areas suitable for crop storage filtered by exclusive criteria: access to finance, distance to major roads and access to IT (mobile broadband connection). The location score is achieved by processing sub-model outputs characterizing logistical factors for crop warehouse siting: Supply, demand, Infrastructure/accessibility. The top score is selected/clipped using the exclusive criteria. Access to finance and roads are defined using a linear distance threshold: • Banks - approx. 20km (0.18 degree) buffer radius. • Major roads - approx. 2km (0.018 degree) buffer radius. Access to IT is characterized applying the mobile broadband coverage map. This 1000m resolution raster dataset is produced under the scope of FAO’s Hand-in-Hand Initiative, Geographical Information Systems - Multicriteria Decision Analysis (GIS-MCDA) aimed at the identification of value chain infrastructure sites (optimal location). **Data creation:** 2022-04-28 **Contact points:** Metadata Contact: [FAO-Data](mailto:fao-data@fao.org) Resource Contact: [Maribel Elias](mailto:maribel.elias@fao.org) **Data lineage:** lineage statement Major data sources, FAO GIS platform Hand-in-Hand and OpenStreetMap (open data) including the following datasets 1.
