Building Damage Assessment in Ranongga Island, Western Province, Solomon Island as of 15 April 2026

**UNOSAT code: TC20260408SLB, GDACS ID: 1001268** This map illustrates the structures and buildings damaged by the passage of Hurricane MAILA-26, with the analysis focusing on Ranongga Island. Damage and destruction were identified primarily using Pleiades very high-resolution satellite imagery, acquired on 15 April 2026, and supported by aerial imagery for validation. In this area, UNOSAT identified approximately 320 damaged buildings and 370 potentially damaged buildings. This is a preliminary analysis and has not yet been validated in the field. Ground verification is encouraged, and feedback can be sent to the United Nations Satellite Centre (UNOSAT).

Offshore Mariculture Suitability for Skipjack and Yellowfin Tuna - Solomon Islands

This vector dataset represents suitable areas for offshore mariculture of Skipjack and Yellowfin Tuna in Solomon Islands, produced under the scope of the Hand-in-Hand initiative in 2022, using publicly accessible data. The geospatial analysis adopts Kapetsky and Aguilar-Manjarrez study (Kapetsky et al., 2013(*)) methodology, where suitability is estimated based on the assumptions: 1. Activity develops within the exclusive economic zones (EEZs). 2. Uses cages for fish. 3. Employs species with proven mariculture technologies and established markets or identified as having good prospects for future development. Analytical criteria and thresholds are defined based on technical limits on cages, cost-effective farming, and species habitat: 1. Depths (25–100 m). 2. Current speeds (10–100 cm/s). 3. Cost limits on distance from shore to offshore installations (25 nm (46.3 km)). 4. Reliable access to a port. 5. Habitat Skipjack and Yellowfin Tuna. (*) Kapetsky, J. Offshore Mariculture Suitability for Tropical/Subtropical Waters Species (Cobia) - Solomon Islands

This vector dataset represents suitable areas for offshore mariculture of Cobia (rachycentron canadum) in the Solomon Islands, produced under the scope of the Hand-in-Hand initiative in 2022, using publicly accessible data. Cobia is distributed in warm marine waters worldwide displaying a very large potential suitable area. It is selected as a representative species for tropical/subtropical waters offshore mariculture. 3.
