✦ Suggested by OrionAIGeolocated power plants across Africa from the WRI Global Power Plant Database, covering thermal plants (coal, gas, oil, nuclear, biomass, waste, geothermal) and renewables (hydro, wind, solar). Each plant includes capacity in megawatts, primary fuel type, country, owner, commissioning year, and a unique identifier. Use this layer for energy access analysis, power sector planning, renewable energy assessments, grid infrastructure studies, and electricity generation capacity mapping across Africa. No additional information provided.
High-resolution vector coastline and shoreline dataset for Africa at 30-metre resolution, derived from Landsat satellite imagery. Includes continental coastlines and major island shorelines. Use this layer for coastal zone management, maritime boundary analysis, coastal erosion monitoring, infrastructure planning, and environmental assessments across Africa. No additional information provided.
Vectorised line network of all rivers across Africa with a catchment area of at least 10 km² or an average river flow of at least 0.1 m³/sec. Derived from the HydroSHEDS database at 15 arc-second resolution. Includes river order, reach length, distance from headwaters and ocean outlet, and long-term average discharge estimates. Use this layer for river network analysis, watershed studies, flood modelling, infrastructure siting near water bodies, and hydrological connectivity analysis across Africa. No additional information provided.
Major hydrological basin boundaries across Africa delineated from hydrologically corrected elevation data derived from HydroSHEDS and Hydro1K datasets. Each polygon represents a drainage basin defined by its watershed boundary, with attributes for basin name, area, and sub-basin coding. Use this layer for transboundary water governance, river basin management, flood risk assessment, water resource planning, and catchment-level environmental analysis across Africa. No additional information provided.
Facebook has produced a model to help map global medium voltage (MV) grid infrastructure, i.e. the distribution lines which connect high-voltage transmission infrastructure to consumer-serving low-voltage distribution. The data found here are model outputs for six select African countries: Malawi, Nigeria, Uganda, DRC, Cote D’Ivoire, and Zambia. The grid maps are produced using a new methodology that employs various publicly-available datasets (night time satellite imagery, roads, political boundaries, etc) to predict the location of existing MV grid infrastructure. The model documentation and code are also available , so data scientists and planners globally can replicate the model to expand model coverage to other countries where this data is not already available. You can find the model code and documentation here: https://github.com/facebookresearch/many-to-many-dijkstra Note: current model accuracy is approximately 70% when compared to existing ground-truthed data. Accuracy can be further improved by integrating other locally-relevant information into the model and running it again. Resolution: geotiff is provided at Bing Tile Level 20
