This EnviroAtlas dataset categorizes land cover into structural elements (e.g. core, edge, branch, etc.). It depicts core areas of forest, core fragmentation, and patterns of connectivity among core patches. Forest is treated as foreground in this dataset; forest land cover classes are separated from the all other land cover classes. This dataset was produced by the US EPA to support research and online mapping activities related to EnviroAtlas. EnviroAtlas (https://www.epa.gov/enviroatlas) allows the user to interact with a web-based, easy-to-use, mapping application to view and analyze multiple ecosystem services for the contiguous United States. The dataset is available as downloadable data (https://edg.epa.gov/data/Public/ORD/EnviroAtlas) or as an EnviroAtlas map service. Additional descriptive information about each attribute in this dataset can be found in its associated EnviroAtlas Fact Sheet (https://www.epa.gov/enviroatlas/enviroatlas-fact-sheets).
This EnviroAtlas dataset categorizes land cover into structural elements (e.g. core, edge, branch, etc.). It depicts core areas of natural land cover, core fragmentation, and patterns of connectivity among core patches. Water is treated as background in this dataset; waterbodies are separated from the natural land cover classes and included in the analysis with the developed land cover classes. This vector tile layer presents the Environment Base style (World Edition) and is designed for use as a base layer to support environment related content. It deemphasizes human elements and focuses more prominently on landscape features. Features include vegetation, parks, farming areas, open space, indigenous lands, military bases, bathymetry, large scale contours, and elevation values. This layer is designed for use with the Environment Detail and Label, Environment Surface Water and Label, and Environment Watersheds to combine into one unified basemap. This vector tile layer provides unique capabilities for customization and high-resolution display. This multisource vector tile layer is built using the same data sources used for other Esri Vector Basemaps. For details on data sources contributed by the GIS community, view the map of Community Maps Basemap Contributors. Esri Vector Basemaps are updated monthly. This layer is used in the Environment Map web map included in ArcGIS Living Atlas of the World. See the Vector Basemaps group for other vector tile layers. Additional details are available in ArcGIS Online Blogs and the Esri Vector Basemaps Reference Document.
