About this dataset

This WFS (Web Feature Service) displays results from the National Survey of Native Woodlands (NSNW) 2003-2008. This survey looked at 1,217 woodland sites across all 26 counties of the Republic of Ireland during 2003-2007.  Aims of the survey:  To establish the area and character of native woodlands in Ireland.  To produce a national inventory of native woodland sites comprising a subjective sample representing the full range of woodland diversity in Ireland.   To produce a national classification system for native woodlands based objectively on data recorded in the field, to compare this system with existing schemes and make recommendations for improvement.  To evaluate the conservation value and threat status of all surveyed sites and highlight undesignated sites which may be worthy of protected status.  To examine the structure, regeneration status and timber resource of native woodlands in Ireland.  To produce monitoring guidelines for the ongoing assessment of Annex I woodland habitats. Annex I Priority habitats, which are in danger of disappearing within the EU territory, are indicated with an asterisk.   List of Layers associated with National Survey of Native Woodlands 2008: - National Survey of Native Woodlands 2008 Habitat Polygons (NPWS) - National Survey of Native Woodlands 2008 Relevé Locations (NPWS)

National Ecosystem and Ecosystem Services Map – Supporting Ecosystem Service Information: Contribution to the woodland network

A raster dataset showing areas' contributing to the woodland network, including how important the area is for the network (based on habitat type and proximity to the next core area). This dataset is part of a dataset series that establishes an ecosystem service maps (national scale) for a set of services prioritised through stakeholder consultation and any intermediate layers created by Environment Systems Ltd in the cause of the project. The individual dataset resources in the datasets series are to be considered in conjunction with the project report: https://www.npws.ie/research-projects/ecosystems-services-mapping-and-assessment The project provides a National Ecosystem and Ecosystem Services (ES) map for a suite of prioritised services to assist implementation of MAES (Mapping and Assessment of Ecosystems and their services) in Ireland. This involves stakeholder consultation for identification of services to be mapped, the development of a list of indicators and proxies for mapping, as well as an assessment of limitations to ES mapping on differing scales (Local, Catchment, Region, National, EU) based on data availability. Reporting on data gaps forms part of the project outputs. The project relied on the usage of pre-existing data, which was also utilised to create intermediate data layers to aid in ES mapping. Inventory of Irish Coastal Lagoons 2007 Sampling Stations (WFS) (NPWS)

This WFS (Web Feature Service) displays spatial data outputs from the Inventory of Irish Coastal Lagoons (IICL) 2007.   The principal objectives of this project were to:  Select four different lagoon types and sample fauna and flora seasonally to gain some understanding of seasonal changes which may occur, in order to design appropriate monitoring procedures.  Sample an additional 24 lagoons to produce a total data set from 60 lagoons, which could be analysed statistically to produce a biological classification of Irish coastal lagoons.  Use the information collected from the 60 lagoons sampled, together with others visited briefly, to compare with information available concerning lagoons in other Member States in order to put the Irish lagoons into a European context.   List of layers associated with Irish Coastal Lagoons 2007 Mapping: - Inventory of Irish Coastal Lagoons 2007 Sampling Stations (NPWS) - Inventory of Irish Coastal Lagoons 2007 Site Extent (NPWS)
