✦ Suggested by OrionAI**UNOSAT code TC20230221MOZ, GDACS Id: 1000961** This map illustrates cumulative satellite-detected water using VIIRS in Mozambique between 21 to 25 March 2023. Within the cloud free analyzed areas of about 620,000 km², a total of about 18,300 km² of lands appear to be affected with flood waters. Water extent appears to have decreased of about 2,700 km2 since the 15-19 March 2023. Based on Worldpop population data and the maximal flood water extent, ~1,300,000 people are potentially exposed or living close to flooded areas mainly located in Zambezia province with ~480,000 people, Nampula province with ~210,000 people and Sofala province with ~ 210,000 people. This is a preliminary analysis and has not yet been validated in the field. Please send ground feedback to the United Nations Satellite Centre (UNOSAT).

Within the cloud-free analyzed areas of about 600,000 km², a total of about 12,000 km² of land appear to be affected by flood waters. Water extent appears to have decreased by about 6,300 km2 since 21-25 March 2023. Based on Worldpop population data and the maximal flood water extent, ~650,000 people are potentially exposed or living close to flooded areas mainly located in Zambezia province with ~220,000 people and Sofala province with ~140,000 people. This preliminary analysis has not yet been validated in the field. Please send ground feedback to the United Nations Satellite Centre (UNOSAT).
**UNOSAT code TC20230221MOZ, GDACS Id: 1000961** This map illustrates satellite-detected water using Sentinel-2 acquired on 21 March 2023, 09:55 local time over the intersection between Shire river and Zambezi rivers in Sofala, Tete and Zambezia Provinces of Mozambique. Within the cloud free analyzed areas of about 20,000 km², a total of about 2,400 km² of lands appear to be affected with flood waters. Based on Worldpop population data and flood water extent, ~180,000 people are potentially exposed or living close to flooded areas mainly located in Mutarara district, Tete province with ~62,000 people, Caia district, Sofala province with ~38,200 people and Mopeia district, Zambezia province with ~34,000 people This is a preliminary analysis and has not yet been validated in the field. Please send ground feedback to the United Nations Satellite Centre (UNOSAT).
**UNOSAT code TC20230221MOZ, GDACS Id: 1000961** This map illustrates satellite-detected water using Sentinel-2 acquired on 26 March 2023, 09:55 local time over the intersection between Shire river and Zambezi rivers in Sofala, Tete and Zambezia Provinces of Mozambique. Within the cloud-free analyzed areas of about 20,000 km², a total of about 1,800 km² of land appear to be affected by flood waters. Water extent appears to have decreased of about 600 km2 since 21 March 2023. Based on Worldpop population data and flood water extent, ~120,000 people are potentially exposed or living close to flooded areas mainly located in Mutarara district, Tete province with ~46,000 people, Mopeia district, Zambezia province with ~22,000 people, and Caia district, Sofala province with ~20,00 people. This is a preliminary analysis and has not yet been validated in the field. Please send ground feedback to the United Nations Satellite Centre (UNOSAT).
**UNOSAT code FL20230131ZMB** This map illustrates cumulative satellite-detected water using VIIRS in Zambia between 07 to 11 February 2023. Within the cloud free analysed areas of about 653,000 km² and based on Worldpop spatial demographic data and the maximum flood water extent, about 400,000 people out of 19 million are potentially exposed or living close to maximum floodwaters areas. This is a preliminary analysis and has not yet been validated in the field. Please send ground feedback to the United Nations Satellite Centre (UNOSAT).
**UNOSAT code: TC20220124MOZ** This map illustrates satellite-detected surface waters in Malawi and Mozambique as observed from a Sentinel-1 image acquired on 02 February 2022 at 10:04 local time. The flood analysis were carried out by using an automated analysis with Artificial Intelligence based methods. Within the analyzed area of about 145,978 km2, about 859 km2 of lands appear to be flooded. Based on Worldpop population data and the detected surface waters in the analyzed area, the potentially exposed population is mainly located in the districts of Mutarara, Cidade de Quelim and Morrumbala with respectively ~ 33,000 people, ~ 11,000 people, and with ~16,600 people. This is a preliminary analysis and has not yet been validated in the field. Please send ground feedback to UNITAR-UNOSAT. Important note: Flood analysis from radar images may underestimate the presence of standing waters in built-up areas and densely vegetated areas due to backscattering properties of the radar signal.
