Land available for cultivation (Gaza, Palestine - July 2025)

The area available for cultivation is the area that is not damaged and not subject to access restrictions. The damaged area was assessed as of 28 July 2025 by the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) and the United Nations Satellite Centre (UNOSAT), based on the cropland dataset for 2023. The area accessible was determined by excluding the so-called no-go areas in place and the areas subject to evacuation orders since 18 March 2025 (the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs [OCHA], July 2025). **Data creation:** 2025-07-31 **Supplemental Information:** More information can be found at https://openknowledge.fao.org/handle/20.500.14283/cd6493en **Contact points:** Resource Contact: [Matieu Henry](mailto:Matieu.Henry@fao.org) Metadata Contact: [Geospatial Unit](mailto:gis-manager@fao.org) **Data lineage:** Land availability for cultivation was assessed using two datasets: (1) the status of damaged cropland from UNOSAT as of July 2025, which includes both damaged and non-damaged areas, and (2) non-accessible areas, comprising (a) no-go areas and (b) areas under evacuation orders, based on OCHA data as of July 2025. The cropland damage status was derived from Sentinel-2 imagery, using data from July 2017 to 2024 as a baseline for comparison with July 2025 to conduct cropland change analysis. The data was classified by accessibility at the governorate level and includes information on the extent of cropland damage. **Resource constraints:** This work is made available under the Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International licence (CC-BY-4.0) **Online resources:** Download: Land available for cultivation (Gaza, Palestine - July 2025) - Shapefile and SLD Download: Gaza Strip damage assessments as of July 2025 (Excel tables) Fact-sheet: Land available for cultivation in the Gaza Strip as of 28 July 2025

UNOSAT Gaza Governorate Damage Assessment Update

**UNOSAT code CE20231007PS** UNOSAT's satellite-detected damage and destruction to buildings within the area of interest in the Gaza Governorate, Gaza Strip, based on an image collected on 15 October 2023 compared to an image collected on 10 October 2023 (partially clouded), and 10 May 2023 shows a total of 533 destroyed structures, 640 severely damaged structures, and 1273 moderately damaged structures, for a total of 2246 affected buildings as of 15 October 2023. The most affected area appears to be the one south of Ash Shuja'iyeh neighborhood (inset 1), with clouds covered on the 10 October 2023 image. Among the new affected structures, UNOSAT identified two school compounds, namely the Elnoor W Alaml School, moderately affected, and the Islamic University of Gaza, previously cloud-covered and now severely damaged. Additionally, UNOSAT identified 45 affected road sections, either by impact craters or by debris. This is a preliminary analysis and has not yet been validated in the field.
