✦ Suggested by OrionAI**UNOSAT code FL20231105SOM** This map illustrates satellite-detected surface waters in Bu'aaler and Saakow District, Juba Dhexe Region and Afmadow District, Juba Hoose Region Somalia as observed from a Sentinel-1 image acquired on 07 November 2023 at 02:54 UTC. Within the analysed area of about 7,600 km², about 180 km² of land appear to be flooded. This is a preliminary analysis and has not yet been validated in the field. Please send ground feedback to United Nations Satellite Centre (UNOSAT). Important note: Flood analysis from radar images may underestimate the presence of standing waters in built-up areas and densely vegetated areas due to backscattering properties of the radar signal.
**UNOSAT code: FL20231105SOM** This map illustrates satellite-detected surface waters in Juba Hoose and Juba Dhexe Region, Somalia as observed from a Sentinel-2 image acquired on 3 December 2023 at 07:39 UTC. Within the analysed area of about 20,000 km2 about 1,300 km2 of land appears to be flooded. This is a preliminary analysis and has not yet been validated in the field. Please send ground feedback to United Nations Satellite Centre (UNOSAT).
This map illustrates satellite-detected flood water extent in the district of Jilib, Middle Juba, Somalia. The analysis was conducted analyzing Sentinel-1 images acquired on the 1 May 2018. As observed from the satellite imagery, a total of 92,000 ha of land were inundated in the area of interest. The most affected districts are Saakow, with almost 38,000 ha of flooded land and southern Diinsoor, with almost 27,000 ha. At least 20 settlements are potentially located within the flooded area. It is likely that flood waters have been systematically underestimated along highly vegetated areas along main river banks and within built-up urban areas because of the special characteristics of the satellite data used. This is a preliminary analysis and has not yet been validated in the field. Please send ground feedback to UNITAR UNOSAT.
**UNOSAT code FL20231105SOM** This map illustrates satellite-detected surface waters in Baardheere District, Gedo Region and Saakow District, Juba Dhexe Region, Somalia as observed from a Sentinel-1 image acquired on 07 November 2023 at 02:54 UTC. Within the map extent of about 4,900 km², about 50 km² of land appear to be flooded.
**UNOSAT code FL20231105SOM** This map illustrates satellite-detected surface waters in Jilib City, Jilib District, Middle Juba Region, Somalia as observed from a Pleiades image acquired on 14 and 15 November 2023. Within the analysed area of about 215 km2 about 123 km2 of land appears to be flooded. Furthermore, within the analysed area about 2,800 buildings are identified as potentially affected by the floods. This is a preliminary analysis and has not yet been validated in the field. Please send ground feedback to the United Nations Satellite Centre (UNOSAT).
**UNOSAT code FL20230327SOM, GDACS Id: 1101908** This map illustrates satellite detected surface waters Hiraan, Lower Shabelle, and Middle Shabelle Regions Somalia as observed from Sentinel-2 image acquired on 29 April 2023 at 07:06 UTC. Within the analyzed area about 12,000 km², about 600 km² of land appear to be flooded. Water extent appears to have increased by about 480km² since 19 April 2023. Based on Worldpop population data and the detected surface waters in the analyzed area 59,000 people are potentially exposed or living close flooded areas. This is a preliminary analysis and has not yet been validated in the field. Please send ground feedback to United Nations Satellite Centre (UNOSAT).
