A Tree Preservation Order is an order made by a local planning authority in England to protect specific trees, groups of trees or woodlands in the interests of amenity. An Order prohibits the cutting down, topping, lopping, uprooting, wilful damage or wilful destruction of trees without the local planning authority’s written consent. If consent is given, it can be subject to conditions which have to be followed. In the Secretary of State’s view, cutting roots is also a prohibited activity and requires the authority’s consent.

The Council’s current Brownfield Land Register (October 2025 update) identifies a total of 23 brownfield sites, which comprise approximately 95ha of housing land and could accommodate up to 1,866 dwellings. Site size ranges from 0.02 ha to 36.5 ha and include the former Biwaters site and part of the Avenue site.

This data contains planning applications from the previous 10 years to the present date. This data shows the approximate extent of planning and other applications processed by the council and should be used alongside the Planning Applications Points dataset, as not every planning application is represented by a polygon. The dataset does not form part of the statutory register of applications, is not guaranteed to be complete and application extents may differ from actual application site boundaries.
