✦ Suggested by OrionAIGSOCmap is the first global soil organic carbon map ever produced through a consultative and participatory process involving member countries, which makes this map totally new and unique. In fact, the map was prepared by member countries, under the guidance of the Intergovernmental Technical Panel on Soils and the Global Soil Partnership Secretariat. Countries agreed on the methodology to produce the map and were trained on modern tools and methodologies to develop national maps. The Global Soil Partnership then gathered all national maps to produce the final product, ensuring a thorough harmonization process.
Soil organic carbon stock in tons per ha for 6 standard depth intervals predicted using the global compilation of soil ground observations. Accuracy assessement of the maps is availble in Hengl et at. (2017) DOI: 10.1371/journal.pone.0169748. Data provided as GeoTIFFs with internal compression (co='COMPRESS=DEFLATE'). Measurement units: t / ha.

GSOCseq is a country-driven global product which depicts the projected Soil Organic Carbon (SOC) stocks (in t C ha-1) 20 years into the future, in current agricultural lands under different soil management scenarios that vary in the degree of carbon inputs to the soil, at 0-30 depth and 1 x 1 km spatial resolution. __Initial SOC stocks (GSOCseq_T0_Map030)__ This map represents an estimate of current soil organic carbon stocks (in t C ha-1) in 2020 (stocks at time 0; t0), at a soil depth of 0-30 cm. The best available national datasets collected over the years from the different countries were used to derive the 2020 baseline stocks __Final SOC stocks under business as usual scenario(GSOCseq_finalSOC_BAU_Map030)__ This map represents the projected soil organic carbon stocks (in t C ha-1) in 2040 (t20), after 20 years of business as usual (BAU) management, at a soil depth of 0-30 cm. __Final SOC stocks under sustainable soil management scenario 1 (GSOCseq_finalSOC_SSM1_Map030)__ This map represents the projected soil organic carbon stocks (in t C ha-1) in 2040, after 20 years of implementation of sustainable soil management (SSM) practices that generate a 5 percent increase in carbon inputs (SSM Scenario 1), at a soil depth of 0-30 cm. __Final SOC stocks under sustainable soil management scenario 2 (GSOCseq_finalSOC_SSM2_Map030)__ This map represents the projected soil organic carbon stocks (in t C ha-1) in 2040, after 20 years of implementation of sustainable soil management (SSM) practices that generate a 10 percent increase in carbon inputs (Scenario 2), at a soil depth of 0-30 cm. __Final SOC stocks under sustainable soil management scenario 3 (GSOCseq_finalSOC_SSM3_Map030)__ This map represents the projected soil organic carbon stocks (in t C ha-1) in 2040, after 20 years of implementation of sustainable soil management (SSM) practices that generate a 20 percent increase in carbon inputs (Scenario 3), at a soil depth of 0-30 centimeters. **Contact points:** **Data lineage:** Data quality information not available **Online resources:** Download the data from Google Cloud Storage
The Digital Soil Map of the World is a global vector dataset based on the original FAO-UNESCO World Soil Map, published in 10 volumes and 19 cartographic sheets from 1972 to 1977. The digitized soil map, in geographic projection (latitude - longitude) and at a scale of 1:5,000,000, was intersected with a layer containing hydrographic features (coasts, lakes, glaciers, and dual-course rivers) and, with the exception of the African continent, with the map of national boundaries obtained from the World Data Bank II (United States Government) updated in January 1994 at a scale of 1:3,000,000. For Africa, national boundaries were derived from the boundaries of the Original FAO/UNESCO World Soil Map of the World. In both cases, national boundaries have been verified and, where necessary, adjusted based on FAO and UN conventions. The Digital Soil Map of the World in PDF and GIS formats is available for download in the **Data and Resources** section of this metadata. Maps and legends can be also found on the **FAO Soil Portal**, along with the related reports, for the following regions: North America, Mexico and Central America, South America, Europe, Asia, South Asia, North and Central Asia, Southeast Asia, and Australasia. **Data revision:** 2007-02-28 **Contact points:** Resource Contact: [ Land and Water Division](mailto:land-and-water@fao.org) Metadata Contact: [FAO-Data](mailto:fao-data@fao.org) **Data lineage:** More information regarding the production and use of the digital soil map of the world can be found in the layer (.lyr), legend (.avl), readme and excel files contained in the zip files available for download.
