Change detection on synthetic aperture radar (SAR) satellite images acquired before and after the event. Damage Proxy Maps show significant changes in radar coherence and amplitude; Flood Proxy Maps show areas that changed to standing water. Maps are preliminary and checked against news reports and ground-level imagery where available. This map was derived from synthetic aperture radar (SAR) images acquired by the ALOS-2 satellites operated by the Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA) before (2 May 2022) and after (30 May 2022) the event.
