✦ Suggested by OrionAI**UNOSAT code: FR20191016LBN** This map illustrates satellite-detected burned areas in Aley and Chouf districts, in Lebanon, based on SPOT-6 imagery acquired on 19 October 2019. Approximately 1275 ha of potentially burned areas were detected by Copernicus-EMS as of 17 October 2019 (orange) and additional 92 ha of burned were detected by UNOSAT as of 19 October 2019 (red), which is equivalent to approximately 7% increase in affected surface area. This is a preliminary analysis and has not yet been validated in the field. Please send ground feedback to UNITAR - UNOSAT.
**UNOSAT code: FR20191016LBN** This map illustrates satellite-detected burned areas in Akkar, Tartous and Homs Governorates, in Lebanon and Syria, based on SPOT-6 imagery acquired on 21 October 2019. Approximately 549 ha of potentially burned areas were detected by UNOSAT as of 21 October 2019 (red). This is a preliminary analysis and has not yet been validated in the field. Please send ground feedback to UNITAR - UNOSAT.
**UNOSAT code: FR20191016LBN** This map illustrates satellite-detected burned areas in Al-Haffa and Al-Qardaha Districts, Lattakia Governorate, Syria, based on SPOT-6 imagery acquired on 21 October 2019. Approximately 433 ha of potentially burned areas were detected by UNOSAT as of 21 October 2019 (red). This is a preliminary analysis and has not yet been validated in the field. Please send ground feedback to UNITAR - UNOSAT.
**UNOSAT code: FR20191016LBN** This map illustrates satellite-detected fire hotspots based on the analysis of Visible Infrared Imaging Radiometer Suite (VIIRS) accessed via NASA FIRMS, between October 15-16, 2019. 30 hotspots were detected in Lebanon and 121 hotspots were detected in three analysed Governorates (i.e. Homs, Lattakia and Tartous) in Syria. This is a preliminary analysis and has not yet been validated in the field. Please send ground feedback to UNITAR - UNOSAT.
**UNOSAT code: FR20250707SYR, GDACS ID: 1024188** This map illustrates satellite-detected burned areas in Qastal Maaf, Rabee'a, and Kasab Sub-districts, Latakia Governorate, Syria, based on Pleiades imagery acquired on 8 July 2025 at 11:48 local time. Within the analyzed area of approximately 700 km², around 100 km² of land appears to be potentially burned. Based on WorldPop population data and the extent of the burned areas, an estimated 5,500 people are potentially exposed or living in close proximity to the affected zones. In addition, approximately 2,400 buildings were potentially exposed to fires. This is a preliminary analysis and has not yet been validated in the field. Please send ground feedback to United Nations Satellite Centre (UNOSAT).
This map illustrates satellite-detected fires and environmental damage at and around Al Qayyarah, approximately 60 Km south of Mosul, Iraq. The main frame shows fires and the oil spill as seen in imagery collected between 23 December 2016 and 24 January 2017. Marked in blue are fires that were detected in 23 December 2016 but appear inactive as of 24 January 2017. Insets on the left show the oil spill north of Al Qayyarah, detected with both radar and optical imagery from multiple dates. As seen in the imagery, the oil spill is very close to one of the streams which is incidentally a tributary to the Tigris River; therefore, it is possible that oil is spilling to the river. The spectral signature from thermal imagery also suggest that areas of the oil spill are on fire. This is a preliminary analysis and has not yet been validated in the field. Please send ground feedback to UNITAR - UNOSAT.
