✦ Suggested by OrionAIThe aim of this work is to generate two friction surfaces for modeling physical accessibility in the Democratic Republic of the Congo: one incorporating walking speed only, and another combining walking and motorized travel speeds. Motorized speeds are applied exclusively on roads that are present and passable by vehicles; in all other areas, walking speeds are used. The GRID3 COD - Travel Time Friction Surface v1.0 dataset is a spatial data layer in tiff format. The datasets contain 2 layers: (1) GRID3_COD_walk_travel_time_friction_surface_v1_0.tif - Applies walking speeds across the entire surface, adjusted for slope and elevation. (2) GRID3_COD_mix_travel_time_friction_surface_v1_0.tif - Applies motorized speeds on roads and walking speeds in all other areas. The resolution is 30 m. The unit of measurement in both surfaces is minutes per meter. Suggested Dataset Citation Center for Integrated Earth System Information (CIESIN), Columbia University. 2026. A 100 m spatial resolution geotiff of motorised travel time in seconds to nearest health facility in Nigeria. The data was generated using the Child Poverty and Access to Services (CPAS) software (10.5281/zenodo.4638563) and was created as part of the CPAS project within the Data for Children Collaborative. The travel time is calculated assuming driving speeds of local public transport options on all-weather roads/asphalt roads and walking speeds on all other roads, tracks, paths and land cover types. A full description is available here a video description of the data is also available here Projection system is: GCS_WGS_1984 EPSG 4326 for all

Accessibility to major urban areas is modelled as raster-based travel time/cost analysis, computed considering the following thresholds: urban>1600 habitants/km², area>50km² (totaling 52 urban regions). Accessibility is calculated using roads intersection points with urban areas polygons (639 access points). This 1km resolution raster dataset is part of FAO’s Hand-in-Hand Initiative, Geographical Information Systems - Multicriteria Decision Analysis (GIS-MCDA) aimed at the identification of value chain infrastructure sites (or optimal location) **Data publication:** 2021-11-01 **Contact points:** Metadata Contact: [FAO-Data](mailto:fao-data@fao.org) Resource Contact: [Nelson Ribeiro](mailto:Nelson.RosasRibeiroFilho@fao.org) **Data lineage:** lineage statement Produced using OpenStreetMap data for road, railways, cities; FAO Inland Waters in Africa; FAO Major Rivers in Africa; WorpPop2020 population density. **Resource constraints:** This work is made available under the Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International license (CC-BY 4.0) **Online resources:** Download raster (TIF) accessibility travel time/cost to major urban areas in Nigeria.
