About this dataset

The US Bureau of Justice Statistics describes law enforcement agencies as "publicly funded and employ at least one full-time or part-time sworn officer with general arrest powers". This dataset includes point locations for federal, state, local, and special jurisdiction law enforcement agency facilities. This dataset was created to provide a general purpose database of law enforcement facility locations. Law enforcement facility data can been used to asses whether the total police capability of a given area is adequate and to help local governments identify areas of greatest concern. The data are also a helpful resource for situational awareness planning, emergency response, and route analysis. A version of this data is also used to map Firearm Safe Harbor Storage Locations. The points in this dataset indicate the locations of law enforcement facilities (police stations, sheriff's offices, etc.) throughout the state of Utah. Each point includes attributes such as the facility name, street address, contact information, city, zip, county, and coordinates. Points have been placed on or near the main structure of the facility. UGRC originally derived this dataset from the Homeland Infrastructure Foundation-Level Data (HIFLD) database maintained by the US Bureau of Justice Statistics. The primary source for this database was the 2008 Census of State and Local Law Enforcement Agencies. The data are currently maintained by UGRC in collaboration with the Department of Public Safety's Bureau of Criminal Identification (BCI).

Utah State Boundary

This dataset depicts the Utah State Boundary as digitized from USGS 7.5 minute quad map series. The boundary should be coincident with the outer boundary of the SGID024.CountyBoundaries dataset. Minor adjustments were made to align with the Newest PLSS-GCDB layers from BLM (CadNSDIv2), biggest move was along the Wyoming and Summit County lines, 47 feet all in non-populated areas (7/18/2014).

Last Update: 02/2021 This datasets was was downloaded from the 2020 Census Redistricting Data (P.L. 94-171) page. All 2020 census boundaries are current to January 1, 2020. The Census Bureau will release the first set of corresponding demographic data in September 2021 (the 2020 Census Redistricting P.L. 94-171 Summary Files). Following that release, AGRC will append the demographic data to the existing 2020 geographies served on this page. Visit the SGID 2020 Census data page for more information.

Utah Trailheads

Trailheads are point locations that provide access, and often vehicle parking, for recreational trail users. This map layer features many of Utah’s trailheads but is not yet complete. In the future, it is expected to include trailhead data assembled from a variety of sources including: US Forest Service, US National Parks Service, State Parks, and map data for which full rights were purchased by the GOED Outdoor Recreation Office in July 2014, from a private entity (Orbital View, Inc). Currently (April 2017), this layer includes only the original data purchased from Orbital View. Additional trailheads can be submitted to Utah AGRC for inclusion in this map layer. The primary goal for the trailheads map layer is to assign a location and a name to each trailhead. However, the trailhead data is stored within a more complex data model that will allow for collection and publishing of more robuts trail and trailhead information in the future: (https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1OPGKmRrLYUBr9qO9EtbX6AwcRla82xMvc-BDr26ia9k/edit#gid=0)

Utah Health Small Statistical Areas 2020

The "Utah Small Health Statistics Areas" feature layer was developed by the Office of Public Health Assessment, Utah Department of Health using the Utah Local Health District and Small Area Designation Algorithm (see https://ibis.health.utah.gov/pdf/resource/Algorithm.pdf). Small Areas are defined based on ZIP Codes, population size, local health district and county boundaries, similarity of ZIP Code area income levels, community political boundaries, and input from local community representatives.
