About this dataset

Data provides information on lead sampling results for drinking water at licensed child development facilities across Washington, DC. Sampling is conducted by the District Department of Energy & Environment (DOEE) to assist facilities in accordance with the Childhood Lead Exposure Prevention Amendment Act of 2017 and D.C. Code § 7-2051, which requires testing for lead in drinking water at child development facilities. The dataset covers calendar years 2018 through 2026 and includes facilities in all eight Wards. Data are updated monthly as new results become available. Users can explore facility?level sampling results, Ward?level trends, and compliance information. Sampling results include detected lead values, non-detects, and indicators for whether lead levels met or exceeded the 5-ppb threshold that requires corrective actions such as tagging outlets out of service, installing filters, or providing alternative drinking water. Building Permits in Last 30 Days

The dataset contains locations and attributes of building construction and alteration permits applied for and approved by the District of Columbia Department of Buildings. These data are shared via an automated process where addresses are batch matched (geocoded) to the District's Master Address Repository. Users may find that some data points will contain 0,0 for X,Y coordinates resulting in inconsistent spatial locations. Addresses for these data points could not be automatically geocoded and will need to be manually geocoded to 'best fit' locations in DC.

DC Well Permits

Wells are defined by 21 DCMR Chapter 18 as any test hole, shaft, or soil excavation created by any means including, but not limited to, drilling, coring, boring, washing, driving, digging, or jetting, for purposes including, but not limited to, locating, testing, diverting, artificially recharging, or withdrawing fluids, or for the purpose of underground injection. The Department of Energy & Environment's Regulatory Review Division reviews permit applications to install wells in private and public space through the Department of Licensing and Consumer Protection and the District Department of Transportation.

ACS 5-Year Demographic Characteristics of DC Wards 2019-2023

Age, Sex, Race, Ethnicity, Total Housing Units, and Voting Age Population. This service is updated annually with American Community Survey (ACS) 5-year data. Contact: District of Columbia, Office of Planning. Email: planning@dc.gov. Geography: 2022 Wards (State Legislative Districts [Upper Chamber]). Current Vintage: 2019-2023. ACS Table(s): DP05. Data downloaded from: Census Bureau's API for American Community Survey. Date of API call: January 2, 2025. National Figures: data.census.gov. Please cite the Census and ACS when using this data. Data Note from the Census: Data are based on a sample and are subject to sampling variability. The degree of uncertainty for an estimate arising from sampling variability is represented through the use of a margin of error. The value shown here is the 90 percent margin of error. The margin of error can be interpreted as providing a 90 percent probability that the interval defined by the estimate minus the margin of error and the estimate plus the margin of error (the lower and upper confidence bounds) contains the true value. In addition to sampling variability, the ACS estimates are subject to nonsampling error (for a discussion of nonsampling variability, see Accuracy of the Data). The effect of nonsampling error is not represented in these tables. Data Processing Notes: This layer is updated automatically when the most current vintage of ACS data is released each year, usually in December. The layer always contains the latest available ACS 5-year estimates. It is updated annually within days of the Census Bureau's release schedule. Boundaries come from the US Census TIGER geodatabases. Boundaries are updated at the same time as the data updates (annually), and the boundary vintage appropriately matches the data vintage as specified by the Census. These are Census boundaries with water and/or coastlines clipped for cartographic purposes. For census tracts, the water cutouts are derived from a subset of the 2020 AWATER (Area Water) boundaries offered by TIGER. For state and county boundaries, the water and coastlines are derived from the coastlines of the 500k TIGER Cartographic Boundary Shapefiles. The original AWATER and ALAND fields are still available as attributes within the data table (units are square meters). Field alias names were created based on the Table Shells file available from the American Community Survey Summary File Documentation page. Data processed using R statistical package and ArcGIS Desktop. Margin of Error was not included in this layer but is available from the Census Bureau. Contact the Office of Planning for more information about obtaining Margin of Error values.

Block Centroids

The dataset contains locations and attributes of blocks, created as part of the Master Address Repository (MAR) for the Office of the Chief Technology Officer (OCTO) and participating DC government agencies. The blocks used street centerlines information from DDOT. Blocks include named alleys in DC (such as 'WALTER ALLEY NE'). A block represents a street segment which usually has two bordering streets. The coordinates for the blocks are located at the midpoint of the street segment. More information on the MAR can be found at https://opendata.dc.gov/pages/addressing-in-dc. The data dictionary is available: https://opendata.dc.gov/documents/2a4b3d59aade43188b6d18e3811f4fd3/explore. In the MAR 2, the BlocksPt is called BLOCKS_PT and is primarily based off of street data from DC Department of Transportation's Roads & Highways database, it also features additional useful information such as created date, last edited date, begin date, and more.
