Percent impervious area within 1 square kilometer

Full Metadata This EnviroAtlas dataset illustrates the percent of each square kilometer within the community area that is covered by impervious surfaces. Impervious surfaces are materials that do not allow the penetration of water and include buildings, roads, and sidewalks. In any given 1-square meter point in this EnviroAtlas dataset, the value shown gives the percentage of impervious surface within 1 square kilometer centered over the given point. For specific information about methods used to develop data for each community, consult their individual metadata records: Austin, TX; Birmingham, AL; Baltimore, MD; Brownsville, TX; Chicago, IL; Cleveland, OH; Des Moines, IA; Durham, NC; Fresno, CA; Green Bay, WI; Los Angeles, CA; Memphis, TN; Milwaukee, WI; Minneapolis/St. Paul, MN; New Bedford, MA; New Haven, CT; New York, NY; Phoenix, AZ; Philadelphia, PA; Pittsburgh, PA; Portland, ME; Paterson, NJ; Portland, OR; Salt Lake City, UT; Sonoma County, CA; St. Louis, MO; Tampa, FL; Virginia Beach/Williamsburg, VA; Washington, DC; and Woodbine, IA.

DMV Personalized License Plates

April 1, 2025: data feeds from DMV are currently offline while the agency works to migrate reporting systems. The most recent data available is from December 2024. Open Data DC is working with DMV to restore data feeds as soon as possible. DC DMV offers 3 types of personalized vehicle tags: Standard (for automobiles): May contain up to 7 letters, the numbers 1 through 9, and/or spaces Motorcycle: May contain up to 5 letters, the numbers 1 through 9, and/or spaces Disability: May contain up to 5 letters, the numbers 1 through 9, and/or spaces No punctuation or symbols are permitted on DC DMV personalized tags. DC DMV reserves the right to reject any combination of letters or numbers that may be deemed offensive. Please review your personalized tag order. Once you accept this order, you cannot change or cancel it. A non-refundable reservation fee of $100 is due when the order is placed. A personalized tag request may take up to 8 weeks to fulfill. You will receive a letter in the mail when your personalized tag is available for pick-up. DC DMV will email you if you have provided your email address. DMV Vehicle Inspections

April 1, 2025: data feeds from DMV are currently offline while the agency works to migrate reporting systems. The most recent data available is from December 2024. Open Data DC is working with DMV to restore data feeds as soon as possible. To get your vehicle inspected, you must drive it to the DC DMV Inspection Station and get in line with with the other cars. The vehicle inspection fee is not paid at the inspection station; instead, it is paid at the time of vehicle registration. Vehicles are inspected in the order they arrive during normal hours of operation. Or, you may make an appointment to have your vehicle inspected. Passenger vehicle inspection appointments are only available for vehicles from 1996 and newer. If your vehicle is a passenger vehicle, and 1996 and newer, click on the link below to schedule an appointment.

United States of America: Road Surface Data

This dataset provides detailed information on road surfaces from OpenStreetMap (OSM), distinguishing between paved and unpaved roads across the region. Surface information is derived using a hybrid deep learning approach. For methodological details, see: http://arxiv.org/abs/2410.19874 Recently, we also published a new country-level dataset based on PlanetScope satellite imagery with near-complete coverage of all arterial roads. It is available on HDX under the name: "United States of America: **Planet** Road Surface". The corresponding paper is available at: https://arxiv.org/abs/2512.04092 Road Surface Statistics Approximately 111.7039 million km of roads are mapped in OSM in this region. Based on AI-derived estimates: - Paved roads: 36.2779 million km (32.4768%) - Unpaved roads: 13.31 million km (11.9154%) About 72.6432 million km (65.0319%) of roads lack surface information in OSM. To reduce this gap, the Mapillary-derived surface dataset provides an additional 5.0864 million km (7.0019%) of surface information. Intended Use This dataset supports transportation planning, infrastructure assessment, climate emissions analysis, and GIS applications. AI Features - pred_class: Model-predicted surface class ("paved" or "unpaved") - pred_label: Binary label (0 = paved, 1 = unpaved) - osm_surface_class: Surface classification derived from OSM tags - combined_surface_osm_priority: Combined classification prioritizing OSM - combined_surface_DL_priority: Combined classification prioritizing DL prediction - n_of_predictions_used: Number of predictions used for estimation - predicted_length: DL-estimated length (meters) - DL_mean_timestamp: Mean timestamp of predictions OSM Attributes - name - name:en - name:* (local language) - highway - surface - smoothness - width - lanes - oneway - bridge - layer - source Urban Classification Attributes - continent - country_iso_a2 - urban (0 = rural, 1 = urban) - urban_area - osm_id - osm_type Data Sources The dataset originates from OpenStreetMap (OSM) and is augmented with deep learning predictions based on Mapillary street-level imagery, combined with the GHSU Global Human Settlement Urban Layer 2019 and AFRICAPOLIS 2020 urban layer.
