Exact coverage from the publisher's own service

OrionAI 2.3.2Released 16 October 2026

When a dataset's record has no area, the data index reads the exact extent from the publisher's service before falling back to geocoding, and thumbnail runs are faster and retry failures sensibly.

Changes since 2.3.1.

#Improved

  • Exact coverage. If a record gives no area, the index now reads its extent from the publisher's service first: the PMTiles header, the WMS layer's capabilities, the ArcGIS service extent, or a Cloud-Optimised GeoTIFF's bounds. Only when none of these exist does it geocode from addresses, place names or countries.
  • Faster thumbnail runs. Several thumbnails render at once.
  • Smarter retries. A dataset whose picture can't be drawn waits a week before the nightly run tries it again. Orion staff are alerted when fewer than nine in ten public datasets have a picture.
