Raster thumbnails drawn from the data

OrionGIS web 1.7.1Released 16 October 2026

Raster datasets get thumbnails coloured from their own values, so population, rainfall or prevalence maps show their real pattern; cards without a thumbnail say so instead of showing a stand-in picture.

Changes since 1.7.0.

#Fixed

  • Raster thumbnails show the data. Single-band rasters (population, births, prevalence, rainfall and more) are coloured along a viridis scale between their own value quantiles, worked out from a sample of the data. Before, a few extreme pixels made most rasters render as a dark blob.
  • Discovered rasters published as Cloud-Optimised GeoTIFFs get a thumbnail drawn from the file itself.
  • No stand-in pictures. A card whose dataset has no thumbnail yet says Preview coming, instead of showing a decorative shape that could be mistaken for the data.
