See the data before you load it
OrionGIS web 1.8.0Released 16 October 2026
Dataset pages and the Open in map area picker now draw the dataset itself. Thumbnails come from the publisher's own picture or from the data, never from an empty map.
Changes since 1.7.3.
#New
- Live data on dataset pages. Until a dataset has its thumbnail, its page shows the data itself on a map you can pan and zoom, read straight from the publisher.
- The data on the Open in map area picker. When you choose the area to load, the dataset is drawn on the map, so you can see where the data is first.
#Improved
- Many more thumbnails. Datasets published as PMTiles (including the Humanitarian OpenStreetMap Team's country exports on HDX), zipped GeoJSON, GeoParquet and OGC API Features are now drawn from their data.
- Publisher pictures first. When a publisher ships its own picture of a dataset, OrionGIS uses it as is.
#Fixed
- No empty maps as thumbnails. A dataset with nothing to draw used to get a thumbnail showing only the basemap. Now it gets no thumbnail until its data can be drawn, and the card says Preview coming.
