China Tibet Earthquake: Damage Proxy Map, Jan 2025

# EOS-RS Damage Proxy Map: Tibet, China, Earthquake, 13 Jan 2025, v0.9 The Earth Observatory of Singapore - Remote Sensing Lab (EOS-RS) created this preliminary Damage Proxy Map (DPM) depicting areas that are likely damaged in Tibet, China, due to a Mw7.1 earthquake on 7 Jan 2025. This map was derived from synthetic aperture radar (SAR) images acquired by the Copernicus Sentinel-1 satellite operated by the European Space Agency (ESA) before (3 Sep 2024 to 1 Jan 2025) and after (13 Jan 2025) the event. The map covers an area indicated by the white polygon. Damage is shown by colored pixels of 30m in size, where yellow to red indicates increasingly significant ground surface change before and after the event. Preliminary validation was conducted using news reports and ground-level imagery and videos in selected areas. This map should be used as a guidance to identify damaged areas, and may be less reliable over vegetated or mountainous areas. Scattered pixels over vegetated or mountainous areas may be false positives, and a lack of colored pixels over such areas may not mean no damage. The product contains modified Copernicus Sentinel data (2024-2025), processed by ESA and analyzed by the Earth Observatory of Singapore - Remote Sensing Lab (EOS-RS). **More map details and files:** **More map details and files:** **Legal Disclaimer:** **Credits:** Earth Observatory of Singapore - Remote Sensing Lab (EOS-RS), Contains modified Copernicus Sentinel data (2024-2025)

Haiti Earthquake: Damage Proxy Map, Aug 2021

# EOS-RS Damage Proxy Map: Haiti earthquake, Mw7.2, 14 August 2021, v0.8 This preliminary map shows areas which are likely damaged in west Haiti due to an Mw7.2 earthquake which occurred in the morning of 14 Aug (local time). Damage is shown by coloured pixels of 30 m in size, where yellow to red indicates increasingly significant ground surface change before and after the event. The map extents are indicated by the white polygon. This map should be used as a guidance to identify damaged areas, and may be less reliable over vegetated areas. Scattered pixels over vegetated areas may be false positives, and a lack of coloured pixels over vegetated areas may not mean no damage. This map is most sensitive to building damage and liquefaction, but small scale change or partial structural damage may not be detected. Derived from synthetic aperture radar data acquired by the Copernicus Sentinel-1 satellites operated by the European Space Agency (ESA) up to August to 15 August 2021. Analysed by the EOS-RS team at the Earth Observatory of Singapore (EOS) in collaboration with NASA-JPL and Caltech. More map details and files at: **More map details and files:**

# ARIA Damage Proxy Map, Izmir, Turkey Earthquake The Advanced Rapid Imaging and Analysis (ARIA) team at NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory and California Institute of Technology, both in Pasadena, California, created this Damage Proxy Map (DPM) depicting areas that are likely damaged by the recent Mw 7.0 (October 30, 2020) earthquake beneath the Aegean Sea between Samos, Greece and Izmir, Turkey. The map was derived from synthetic aperture radar (SAR) images on October 30, 2020 by the Copernicus Sentinel-1 satellites operated by the European Space Agency (ESA). The pre-event images were taken before (October 18, 2020 and October 24, 2020) the earthquake. The image covers an area of 337 by 175 kilometers (210 by 108 miles), shown by the large red polygon. Each pixel measures about 30 meters across. The color variation from yellow to red indicates increasingly more significant surface change. Preliminary validation was done by comparing with the Media reports. This damage proxy map should be used as guidance to identify damaged areas, and may be less reliable over vegetated areas. For example, the scattered colored pixels over vegetated areas may be false positives, and the lack of colored pixels over vegetated areas does not necessarily mean no damage. This map is most sensitive to building damage, but small scale change or partial structural damage may not be detected by this map. Contains modified Copernicus Sentinel data, processed by ESA. Analyzed by the NASA-JPL/Caltech ARIA team. This task was carried out at JPL funded by NASA. The products (KMZ and GeoTIFF files) are available to download at For more information about ARIA, visit: **More map details and files:** **NOTE for KMZ users:** After opening the KMZ file, please uncheck the "Compress" option in the "Texture Colors" section in the "3D View" tab under the menu "Google Earth Pro > Preference..." (Mac) or "Tools > Options..." (Windows). After unchecking the "Compress" option, Google Earth needs to be restarted. If the Compress option is on, some red pixels may appear as greenish dull color.

Palu Earthquake: Damage Proxy Map, Sep 2018

# Palu - ARIA Damage Proxy Map v0.7 The Advanced Rapid Imaging and Analysis (ARIA) team at NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory in Pasadena, California, and Caltech, also in Pasadena, created this Damage Proxy Map (DPM) depicting areas in Central Sulawesi, Indonesia, including the city of Palu, that are likely damaged (shown by red and yellow pixels) as a result of the M7.5 September 28, 2018 earthquake. The map is derived from synthetic aperture radar (SAR) images from the ALOS-2 satellite, operated by Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA). The images were taken before (August 8, 2018) and after (October 3, 2018) the earthquake. The map covers an area of 67 by 70 kilometers, shown by the large red polygon. Each pixel measures about 30 meters across. The color variation from yellow to red indicates increasingly more significant ground surface change. Preliminary validation was done in collaboration with the Earth Observatory of Singapore by comparing with local media information and photos. This damage proxy map should be used as guidance to identify damaged areas, and may be less reliable over vegetated areas. For example, the scattered single colored pixels over vegetated areas may be false positives, and the lack of colored pixels over vegetated areas does not necessarily mean no damage. The DPM was created by the NASA-JPL/Caltech ARIA team, and the ALOS-2 data were provided by JAXA. The Earth Observatory of Singapore coordinated with the Sentinel Asia to timely task the ALOS-2 satellite. The algorithm development was carried out at JPL under a contract with NASA. Subsoil Sand Fraction

Percentage sand in the in the subsoil. Sand comprises particles, or granules, ranging in diameter from 0.0625 mm (or 1⁄16 mm) to 2 millimeters. An individual particle in this range size is termed a sand grain. Sand feels gritty when rubbed between the fingers (silt, by comparison, feels like flour). Sand is commonly divided into five sub-categories based on size: very fine sand (1/16 - 1/8 mm diameter), fine sand (1/8 mm - 1/4 mm), medium sand (1/4 mm - 1/2 mm), coarse sand (1/2 mm - 1 mm), and very coarse sand (1 mm - 2 mm). **Data publication:** 2012-03-01 **Citation:** Full acknowledgement and referencing of all sources must be included in any documentation using any of the material contained in the Harmonized World Soil Database, as follows: FAO/IIASA/ISRIC/ISSCAS/JRC, 2012. Global Soil Organic Carbon Map v1.5 (GSOC)

Global Soil Organic Carbon Map v1.5 is the first global soil organic carbon map ever produced through a consultative and participatory process involving member countries, which makes this map totally new and unique. In fact, the map was prepared by member countries, under the guidance of the Intergovernmental Technical Panel on Soils and the Global Soil Partnership Secretariat. Countries agreed on the methodology to produce the map and were trained on modern tools and methodologies to develop national maps. The Global Soil Partnership then gathered all national maps to produce the final product, ensuring a thorough harmonization process. The dataset comes along with a technical report presenting methodologies and process of compiling the Global Soil organic Carbon Map. Digital Soil Map of the World v.3.6

The Digital Soil Map of the World is a global vector dataset based on the original FAO-UNESCO World Soil Map, published in 10 volumes and 19 cartographic sheets from 1972 to 1977. The digitized soil map, in geographic projection (latitude - longitude) and at a scale of 1:5,000,000, was intersected with a layer containing hydrographic features (coasts, lakes, glaciers, and dual-course rivers) and, with the exception of the African continent, with the map of national boundaries obtained from the World Data Bank II (United States Government) updated in January 1994 at a scale of 1:3,000,000. For Africa, national boundaries were derived from the boundaries of the Original FAO/UNESCO World Soil Map of the World. In both cases, national boundaries have been verified and, where necessary, adjusted based on FAO and UN conventions. The Digital Soil Map of the World in PDF and GIS formats is available for download in the **Data and Resources** section of this metadata. Maps and legends can be also found on the **FAO Soil Portal**, along with the related reports, for the following regions: North America, Mexico and Central America, South America, Europe, Asia, South Asia, North and Central Asia, Southeast Asia, and Australasia. **Data revision:** 2007-02-28 **Contact points:** Resource Contact: [ Land and Water Division](mailto:land-and-water@fao.org) Metadata Contact: [FAO-Data](mailto:fao-data@fao.org) **Data lineage:** More information regarding the production and use of the digital soil map of the world can be found in the layer (.lyr), legend (.avl), readme and excel files contained in the zip files available for download. Geological surface map of Denmark 1:200.000

This dataset represents a nationwide digital geological map of superficial deposits in Denmark at a scale of 1:200.000. The map shows the classification and distribution of near-surface deposits, primarily glacial and post-glacial sediments. The dataset is based on the Digital Soil and Sediment Map of Denmark at 1:25.000 in areas where detailed mapping is available. In other areas, the distribution of deposits has been interpreted based on borehole data, landscape analysis and other available geological information. The deposits are classified into 12 generalised types, making the dataset a simplified and generalised version of the detailed 1:25.000 map. The dataset provides a national overview of superficial deposits and serves as a reference for regional and national applications. Official metadata Purpose The purpose of the dataset is to provide a consistent, nationwide digital map of superficial deposits in Denmark. The map is used as a basis for geological interpretation, environmental management, land-use planning, resource assessment, as well as education and research. Supplemental Information The dataset is an interpretation-based national map product and is not subject to continuous updates. It represents a generalised overview of the distribution of superficial deposits at the ground surface and should be used in conjunction with more detailed maps and local data where higher spatial resolution or detailed stratigraphic information is required. Lineage The dataset was compiled by the Geological Survey of Denmark and Greenland (GEUS) and represents version 2 of the digital superficial deposits map at a scale of 1:200.000. The map is based on the compilation and harmonisation of existing geological maps, borehole data, geomorphological analyses and previous Quaternary geological investigations. Version 2 includes updates and improvements compared to earlier versions, including revised deposit boundaries and classifications based on new knowledge and quality assurance. During compilation of the dataset, generalisation and adjustments have been applied in certain areas, resulting in a spatial uncertainty of up to approximately 200 m, locally slightly more. The dataset is designed as an overview map at a scale of 1:200.000 and is suitable for educational purposes, regional-scale analyses and as background information for other thematic maps. The dataset is not subject to continuous updates and was published in GEUS Report 2011/19. Mapping of superficial deposits in Denmark has been a core task of the Danish geological surveys since the establishment of the Geological Survey of Denmark (DGU) in 1888. The digital superficial deposits map at a scale of 1:200.000, version 2, builds on this long mapping tradition but represents a modern digital compilation and interpretation based on more recent data and methods.
