About this dataset

This is a dataset representing the electronic traffic signals, fixed electronic signs, and beacons inventory on Boulder County owned roads, which are maintained by the Public Works Traffic Team. It is rare for a new device to be installed, so this dataset remains unchanged for long periods of time. Records are determined by signals, signs and beacons which have an electronic source. Luminate is the primary contractor for maintenance.

Bridge Structures

An inventory of all major structures and minor structures on Boulder County owned roads with information including structure ID, structure dimensions, ownership, maintenance, and construction year. This is the primary dataset perpetually maintained by the Boulder County Public Works Department. It includes all records, including archived information when structures are replaced.

Mile Markers

Mile markers for select Boulder County roads and CDOT roads. The Boulder County roads were initially selected based on historic precedent, referencing printed maps in the Public Works (formerly Transportation) Department. Markers for more roads may be added after further review. Historic roads included some within municipalities, and mile markers were retained for those roads, regardless of annexations. Mile marker points along County roads were measured using GIS. Each road length was calculated using GIS, depending on accuracy from the Colorado StatePlane coordinate system and then accounting for slope from a 2.5 foot DEM. Markers, every quarter mile, were located along routes using a linear referencing method. Markers on CDOT roads were selected from a feature service owned by them. The selected roads were based on the Road_Map_Roads feature class. Note: Road Maintenance mile posts will be move based on markers in this dataset.

Sidewalks

A pathway, typically through a neighborhood, and/or along a roadway, used by non-motorized traffic, such as pedestrians or bicyclists, intended to provide a link to key destinations like homes, schools, bus stops or shopping areas. This dataset is being utilized in the Cartegraph asset management system.

Bicycle_Traffic_Counts_at_Colorado_and_30th_(Northbound)

This data logs bicycle and/or pedestrian data from our permanent counters. The permanent counters use loops, sensors, or camera systems to quantify such data. The counters continuously transmit the raw data from the location noted in the title. Counts are displayed in real-time and are grouped together in 15-minute intervals for reporting. Adjustment factors for data have not been applied to reflect field validation of equipment. Data validation is completed one year after the data is released – i.e. 2025 data will be validated by end of 2026. If data is needed for a project, please reach out to the Transportation and Mobility Department. Please note that this data comes from a third-party vendor, Eco-Counter, and the City of Boulder's data reporting process relies on the data extracted from their system.

Crashes Historic

Boulder County crashes mapped from CDOT data. The crash records have a variety of location information, so multiple methods were used to geolocate them, from using lat/long on CDOT roads to geocoding based on the 'loc_x" fields. The CDOT data is intact, except where street names were cleaned up for geocoding matches and city names were fixed. Then, summary information, intersection identification and corridor identification were added. The records include all crashes potentially going back to 1986 that were received from CDOT, and were mappable. This does not account for all crashes during that time period. Due to structural data changes (schema changes), this dataset contains historic crash information from 1999 thru the end of 2020. Crash data going forward will be in a new feature class named “Crashes”.
