About this dataset

Vector data set consisting of lines representing streams in Kentucky. Each line segment is attributed with the number of square miles of drainage area, and the peak flow values for 2, 5, 10, 25, 50, 100, 200, and 500 year intervals at that point on the stream. Peak flow values were calculated using the equations in the USGS Water-Resources Investigations Report 03-4180 "Estimating the Magnitude of Peak Flows for Streams in Kentucky for Selected Recurrence Intervals." The data also has attributes indicating when the peak flow values should not be used because the drainage area is out of the size range for the equation, the drainage area is greater than 10 percent impervious, or the stream segment is in a lake or pond.

USACE Section 10 Waters in Kentucky

These data were developed as a subset of the 24k NHD Blueline Streams. An additional field indicating whether the segment falls under the river miles included by USACE in public notice has been added. The National Hydrography Dataset (NHD) is a feature-based database that interconnects and uniquely identifies the stream segments or reaches that make up the nation's surface water drainage system. NHD data was originally developed at 1:100,000-scale and exists at that scale for the whole country. This high-resolution NHD, generally developed at 1:24,000/1:12,000 scale, adds detail to the original 1:100,000-scale NHD. (Data for Alaska, Puerto Rico and the Virgin Islands was developed at high-resolution, not 1:100,000 scale.) Local resolution NHD is being developed where partners and data exist. The NHD contains reach codes for networked features, flow direction, names, and centerline representations for areal water bodies. Reaches are also defined on waterbodies and the approximate shorelines of the Great Lakes, the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans and the Gulf of Mexico. The NHD also incorporates the National Spatial Data Infrastructure framework criteria established by the Federal Geographic Data Committee.

NHD River Milepoints in Kentucky

Miles along rivers and streams in the National Hydrologic Database (NHD) with a valid Geographic Naming Information System (GNIS) name and code. Many agencies in the Commonwealth of Kentucky use river mile points in various regulatory programs. This data set was built to provide these agencies with a consistent and more precise source of river miles.

3DHP Flowline Features in Kentucky

The 3D Hydrography Program (3DHP) data is an integrated, National, 3D-enabled hydrologic dataset derived from the USGS 3D Elevation Program (3DEP) data. For areas where Elevation-derived Hydrography (EDH) has not yet been collected, 3DHP data is supplemented by hydrologic vector data from the National Hydrography Dataset (NHD). As further EDH data is collected, it will replace the NHD data in those areas. 3DHP data ingested from EDH sources includes ‘value added’ catchments and flowline network derivative attributes. All the data is open and non-proprietary. However, users should be aware that temporal changes may have occurred since this dataset was collected and that some parts of this data may no longer represent actual surface conditions. Users should not use this data for critical applications without a full awareness of its limitations. This dataset is not intended to be used for site-specific regulatory determinations. 3DHP datasets include a three-dimensional (3D) hydrography network generated from, and integrated with, elevation data from the 3DEP to better represent stream gradients and channel conditions, along with waterbodies, hydrologic units, hydrologically enhanced elevation and other surfaces, and more consistent and accurate attributes. This product is new in federal fiscal year 2025 (FY25), and consists only of vector data in a series of feature classes. The product represents the 3DHP dataset and the schema in which it is contained as of September 30, 2024 Future Annual Staged Product releases will reflect the schema at the time the product is generated and include more EDH-sourced data holdings.

KY DOW 305(b) 2010 Integrated Report (Rivers and streams - Composite)

Section 305(b) of the Clean Water Act requires states to assess the condition of the Waters of the US. The Kentucky Division of Water, in cooperation with other agencies, collects biological and water quality data to assess the condition of the resource and reports this to Congress every two years in the Integrated Report to Congress. (https://www.water.ky.gov/sw/swmonitor/305b/) These data represent the assessment results for surface waters of the Commonwealth of Kentucky.
