Load discovered data straight into a map

OrionGIS web 1.5.0Released 15 October 2026

Discovered datasets now load into Map Studio for your area, as a private copy or a live layer, and satellite collections let you pick a scene and see it in true colour or as NDVI, NDWI, NDBI or NBR.

Changes since 1.4.0.

#New

  • Open in map for discovered datasets. Choose an area and OrionGIS loads the data into a new map. Small vector data becomes a private copy in your workspace; larger data and all imagery become a live layer streamed from the source and bounded to your area. The licence and publisher travel with the layer.
  • Satellite scenes. For imagery collections, search scenes by area, dates and maximum cloud cover, with a quicklook of each, then add one in true colour or as an index: NDVI (vegetation), NDWI (water), NDBI (built-up) or NBR (burn scars). Indices are computed by Orion's own tiler, so nothing is downloaded.
  • Save a snapshot of my area. Turn a live raster layer into a GeoTIFF of just your area, saved as a private copy.
  • Orion's own tile services. Rasters and imagery are served through Orion's tiler, and vector tiles straight from Orion's database, only for datasets you're allowed to see.

#Improved

  • Large files load only what you need. Cloud-optimised files (GeoTIFF, GeoParquet) are read for your area alone; when an area holds more than a copy allows, OrionGIS offers a live layer instead.
  • Plan limits. Copies count toward your storage; live layers don't.
