OrionGIS now finds data beyond its own catalogue

14 October 2026The OrionGIS team

Datasets from public portals around the world now sit beside Orion's own in Data Explorer, each with a page, publisher credit and licence, and AI assistants can search them too.

The data you need is often not in one place. Boundaries sit in one catalogue, population grids in another, satellite collections in a third. OrionGIS now brings them together.

Discovered by OrionAI. Alongside the datasets Orion hosts, Data Explorer now shows public datasets from publishers' own portals: humanitarian and government catalogues, global boundary and population sources, and satellite collections from NASA, Copernicus, Digital Earth Africa and the Microsoft Planetary Computer. Each is marked "Discovered by OrionAI" and credits its publisher by name.

Judge it before you use it. Every discovered dataset has its own page with the publisher's description, the licence, the area and years it covers, its columns and a few sample rows. Imagery collections show the platform, sensor, resolution and bands.

Clear about what you can do. Each page says whether the data is Open, View only, or available through your own account with the publisher.

Ask from anywhere. If you use Claude, ChatGPT or Copilot, the OrionGIS MCP server now has two new tools, to search the data index and describe any dataset in it. Connect your assistant.

Explore the data.
