Local Access Transport Areas (LATAs) in Kentucky

Telephone exchanges in Kentucky define a geographic area in which telephone prices and services are the same. This may be referred to as a rate area. The concept of exchange area is based on geography and regulation, not equipment . An exchange area polygon has only one operating company, which may be referred to as a local telephone company or incumbent local exchange carrier (ILEC or LEC). Area Codes and LATAs (Local Access Transport Area, which is the area local telephone companies are permitted to offer local or long distance telecommunications services), are defined by grouping exchange areas. The Nebraska Exchange Boundaries dataset depicts telecommunications exchange areas within the State of Nebraska as maintained by the Nebraska Public Service Commission (PSC). The dataset includes exchange boundaries associated with Incumbent Local Exchange Carriers (ILECs), reflecting historically established service territories that continue to provide a common spatial reference for telecommunications activities. Exchange boundaries are represented as polygon features and support planning, analysis, coordination, and information sharing related to telecommunications and broadband services across the state. This dataset is intended for use by government agencies, telecommunications providers, researchers, and the public.

This dataset contains the Commonwealth of Kentucky Boundary. The State boundary along Ohio River has been updated to reflect the Supreme Court Case regarding a boundary dispute between Kentucky, Indiana and Ohio in 1980 (Ohio v.
