Dataset pages that answer questions

OrionGIS web 1.10.0Released 21 October 2026

Every dataset page opens with a quotable summary and answers five common questions, OrionAI's "About this data" appears on thinly described datasets, and country and theme pages open with a written introduction.

Changes since 1.9.1.

#New

  • A summary at the top of every dataset page. One paragraph under the title says what the data is, the area and years it covers, who publishes it, its licence and its size, in words a reader or an AI assistant can quote as they are.
  • Questions about this data. Each dataset page answers what it contains, what area and years it covers, whether it can be used commercially, how to cite it and how to load it into a map, from the dataset's own details. Search engines see the answers as FAQ markup.
  • About this data, by OrionAI. Where a publisher's description is short, the page shows two or three paragraphs by OrionAI written from the columns, sample rows, coverage, licence and publisher, marked ✦ Described by OrionAI. The publisher's own words stay as they are.
  • Country and theme pages with an introduction. Pages such as Kenya GIS data open with a short introduction: how many open datasets there are, the main publishers, themes and years, the kinds of data, and the most used datasets.

#Improved

  • Readable licence names. Licences such as public domain, the UK Open Government Licence and ODC licences now show their names instead of codes.
