Easier to find, on search engines and AI assistants
OrionGIS web 1.9.0Released 21 October 2026
The catalogue's real size on every page, new guides to cloud GIS, AI-native GIS, geoportals and AI map making, richer dataset pages for search, and faster updates to Bing and other engines.
Changes since 1.8.0.
#New
- Guides to what OrionGIS is for. New pages on cloud GIS, AI-native GIS, geoportals and spatial data infrastructure and the AI map maker, linked from a new Explore column in the footer.
- A front door to the open data. /data now opens with live figures for the catalogue, and every place and theme page carries a short description and its trail back to the catalogue.
- More answers on the homepage. The FAQ now explains what OrionGIS is, where its data comes from, how it works as a geoportal, and how AI map making works.
#Improved
- The real size of the catalogue. The homepage, product pages and Data Explorer show the live number of open datasets (more than 25,000 from over 1,400 publishers), not the number hosted by Orion alone.
- Richer dataset pages for search. Each dataset page tells search engines and AI assistants who publishes it, its licence, formats, columns, coverage, picture, and when it last changed, with a clear page description.
- Only reviewed data in public lists. Signed-out visitors and search engines see only published, reviewed datasets on browse pages and in related datasets.
- Faster updates to search engines. When a dataset page changes, Bing and the other IndexNow engines are told within the hour, and the sitemap's dates now move only when a page does.
