OrionAI now tells you how to read the map it made

24 October 2026The OrionGIS team

Every map OrionAI makes in Map Studio now comes with a plain explanation of its colours and a colour key, and more requests end in a finished, saved map.

A map is only useful if you can read it. When OrionAI finishes a map in Map Studio, the result card now tells you what the map shows, the key finding with its numbers, and what each colour means, in everyday words: "counties shade from pale yellow, the fewest schools per km², to dark red, the most; grey lines are sub-county borders." Under it, a colour key lists the exact colours on your map and what each stands for, so you can share the map knowing what it says.

OrionAI also finishes more maps. Some requests take many steps, for example counting schools in every ward or measuring vegetation change over a forest. When a request reaches its limit, OrionAI now uses its last steps to style the result, zoom to the place and save your map, then tells you honestly whether the map answers your question or what is left. OrionAI also keeps track of how many steps it has left, so it saves room for those finishing touches.

We also fixed a problem where questions about some layers from Orion's catalogue, such as schools in Kampala by type or hospitals in Accra, failed partway through. They now work.
