150 colour scales, and OrionAI knows which one fits

OrionGIS now has one library of about 150 tested colour scales, each tagged with what it suits and checked for colour-blind readers. OrionAI chooses from it by what your values mean.

Last week OrionAI learned to choose colours by meaning. This release gives it far more to choose from.

One colour library for every map. OrionGIS now carries about 150 colour scales from the sources cartographers and scientists trust: ColorBrewer, CARTOColors, cmocean (made for ocean and climate data), Fabio Crameri's Scientific Colour Maps, and matplotlib's perceptual scales. Six Orion scales in our green, navy and gold join them for branded maps and reports.

Each scale knows what it is for. Every scale is tagged with the data it suits, such as rainfall, population, vegetation, temperature, elevation, change or land cover. OrionGIS also measures each one: does it run steadily from light to dark, can people with red-green colour blindness read it, does it survive greyscale printing, and is it better on a light or a dark basemap.

OrionAI picks from all of it. Ask for rainfall and you get a rain scale; ask for population density and you get a warm light-to-dark gradient; ask how something changed and you get a two-sided scale centred on no change. It prefers scales that colour-blind readers can use. Name a scale yourself, "use batlow" or "in blues", and OrionAI uses it.

Find a scale in seconds. The Style panel's picker groups the library by kind and has a search box: type "rainfall", "categories" or "crameri". Raster layers get the same list.
