OrionAI in Map Studio, rebuilt for finished maps

Ask OrionAI for a map and it now adds boundaries for any country at any level, follows a short plan, shows its steps in plain words, makes better-looking maps by default, and uses one credit per request.

Ask OrionAI for a map in Map Studio and you should get a map: the right data, a clear style, and a short answer you can trust. This release is the first step towards that.

Boundaries for every country, at every level. Ask for "districts of Uganda", "states of Brazil" or "counties of Kenya" and OrionAI adds them in seconds. It works for every country, from the national outline down to the finest level each country publishes, and each area comes with its name, code and size. The boundaries come from geoBoundaries (CC BY 4.0), and OrionAI credits them and their original source.

One credit per request. Whatever OrionAI does to make your map, a request you send uses one credit.

You see what it does, in plain words. OrionAI starts by saying what it will do. While it works, each step appears as a short line, such as "Searched Orion data", "Ran an analysis step" or "Styled a layer". When it is done, it tells you what the map shows and which datasets it used, with their publisher and licence.

Better maps by default. OrionAI follows cartographic rules. It colours areas by rates and densities, not raw counts. It uses a small number of classes, keeps the subject of the map in front, and zooms to the place you asked about.

It stops when it should. If the data you need is not in Orion, OrionAI says so and suggests alternatives, rather than trying for minutes.

We also fixed a problem where adding some open-data layers made Map Studio stop working.
