25,000 open datasets, now easier to find

21 October 2026The OrionGIS team

OrionGIS now shows the real size of its open data catalogue and tells search engines and AI assistants exactly what each dataset is, so the people who need the data can find it.

OrionGIS indexes more than 25,000 open datasets from over 1,400 publishers. Until today, our homepage said 900. That number counted only the data Orion hosts, not the open data OrionAI has found on publishers' own portals. Every page now shows the live figure.

Found where people look. People look for GIS data in search engines and, more and more, by asking AI assistants. Every dataset page now gives both a clear account of the data: who publishes it, its licence, formats, columns, the area it covers, a picture of it, and when it last changed. When a page changes, Bing and the other IndexNow engines hear about it within the hour.

Only data you can trust. Browse pages and related datasets, as search engines and signed-out visitors see them, list only datasets that have passed review and are published.

What OrionGIS is for. The home page now explains cloud GIS, AI-native GIS, geoportals and spatial data infrastructure, and the AI map maker: one platform where AI works across finding data, mapping, field collection and dashboards.
