About this dataset

# ARIA Flood Proxy Map: India, Bangladesh, 2019 Floods This map shows areas that are likely flooded in northeast India and Bangladesh due to heavy rains brought by the monsoon season, shown by light blue pixels of 30 m (Copernicus Sentinel-1) and 25 m (ALOS-2) pixel size, and is a preliminary result. The map extents are indicated with red and yellow polygons. This map should be used as a guidance to identify areas that are likely flooded, and may be less reliable over urban and vegetated areas. Derived from synthetic aperture radar data acquired by the Copernicus Sentinel-1 satellites operated by the European Space Agency (ESA) before (15 May) and during (14 Jul) the event, and by the ALOS-2 satellite operated by the Japanese Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA) before (25 Mar) and during (15 Jul) the event. Analysed by the ARIA-SG team at the Earth Observatory of Singapore in collaboration with NASA/JPL-Caltech. For more information, please visit **More map details and files:**

Documentation

Change detection on synthetic aperture radar (SAR) satellite images acquired before and after the event. Damage Proxy Maps show significant changes in radar coherence and amplitude; Flood Proxy Maps show areas that changed to standing water. Maps are preliminary and checked against news reports and ground-level imagery where available. These are preliminary maps derived from satellite radar and should be used as guidance only. Coloured pixels may include false positives, and their absence does not mean an absence of damage or flooding.

Bangladesh Floods: Flood Proxy Map, Aug 2023

# EOS-RS Flood Proxy Map: Bangladesh, Floods, 10 Aug 2023, v0.5 The Earth Observatory of Singapore - Remote Sensing Lab (EOS-RS) created this preliminary Flood Proxy Map (FPM) depicting areas that are likely flooded in Bangladesh due to heavy rains. This map was derived from synthetic aperture radar (SAR) images acquired by the Copernicus Sentinel-1 satellite operated by the European Space Agency (ESA) before (29 July 2023) and during (10 Aug 2023) the event. The image covers an area indicated by the large white polygon. Each light blue pixel measures about 30 meters across. Preliminary validation was done in selected areas using high resolution optical imagery and news reports. This flood proxy map should be used as a guide to identify areas that are likely flooded, and is less reliable over urban and vegetated areas. The product contains modified Copernicus Sentinel data (2023), processed by ESA and analyzed by the Earth Observatory of Singapore - Remote Sensing Lab (EOS-RS), using the Advanced Rapid Imaging and Analysis (ARIA) system originally developed at NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory, California Institute of Technology, and modified at EOS-RS. **More map details and files:** **More map details and files:** **Credits:** Earth Observatory of Singapore - Remote Sensing Lab (EOS-RS), Advanced Rapid Imaging and Analysis (ARIA). # EOS-RS Flood Proxy Map: India, Floods, 18 May 2022, v0.4 The Earth Observatory of Singapore - Remote Sensing Lab (EOS-RS) created this preliminary Flood Proxy Map (FPM) depicting areas that are likely flooded in Assam, India due to heavy rains that started on 13 May 2022. This map was derived from synthetic aperture radar (SAR) images acquired by the Copernicus Sentinel-1 satellites operated by the European Space Agency (ESA) before (6 May 2022) and during (18 May 2022) the event. The image covers an area indicated by the large white polygon. Each light blue pixel measures about 30 meters across. This map was validated using reports of flooded areas in New Haflong Railway Station and along the Kampur-Kathiatoli Road. This flood proxy map should be used as a guide to identify areas that are likely flooded, and is less reliable over urban and vegetated areas. The product contains modified Copernicus Sentinel data (2022), processed by ESA and analyzed by the Earth Observatory of Singapore - Remote Sensing Lab (EOS-RS), using the Advanced Rapid Imaging and Analysis (ARIA) system originally developed at NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory, California Institute of Technology, and modified at EOS-RS. **More map details and files:** **More map details and files:**
