About this dataset

HRDPA is ECCC’s high-resolution precipitation analysis, merging gauge, radar, and HRDPS model data. This layer aggregates the final (or preliminary) HRDPA accumulations to sub-basin polygons. Each record indicates the average precipitation that truly occurred over each watershed, vital for verifying model forecasts, calibrating hydrological models, and conducting post-event analyses of flood or drought severity.

Forecasted Basin-Average Accumulated Precipitation (GFS - 168 Hrs) v3

GFS model output is processed into APCP rasters that capture accumulated precipitation over a 7‑day forecast period. These rasters are then combined with watershed boundary data, and zonal statistics are applied to compute average precipitation for each sub‑basin. The final polygon features provide a clear depiction of global rainfall and snowfall patterns, offering critical information for disaster risk management and international water resource planning.

Africa - HydroBasin - vectorized polygon layers of hydrographic basins

HydroBASINS represents a series of vectorized polygon layers that depict sub-basin boundaries at a global scale. The goal of this product is to provide a seamless global coverage of consistently sized and hierarchically nested sub-basins at different scales (from tens to millions of square kilometers), supported by a coding scheme that allows for analysis of catchment topology such as up- and downstream connectivity. HydroBASINS has been extracted from the gridded HydroSHEDS core layers at 15 arc-second resolution. More info: HydroBASINS

East Africa - CHIRPS Seasonal Rainfall Anomaly

Seasonal rainfall accumulation anomaly for East Africa derived from CHIRPS data, showing deviation from the 1981-2010 historical average in millimetres. Use this layer for drought early warning, seasonal forecast validation, agricultural planning, and humanitarian response in the Horn of Africa.

Annual Cumulative Precipitation

This dataset provides annual cumulative precipitation derived from monthly land-surface precipitation from the Global Global Precipitation Climatology Centre (GPCC) dataset. The GPCC data comes from rain-gauges built on GTS-based and historical data from January 1891 through December 2019, with ~85,000 stations world-wide that feature record durations of 10 years or longer. The data coverage per month varies from ~15,000 (before 6000) to more than 50,000 stations. The data is available globally at 0.25 × 0.25 degree resolution. The Global Precipitation Climatology Centre (GPCC) is operated by Deutscher Wetterdienst (DWD) under the auspices of the World Meteorological Organization (WMO). Annual cumulative precipitation

MODIS/Aqua Water Reservoir 8-Day L3 Global V061

The Aqua Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) Water Reservoir 8-Day Level 3 (L3) Global (MYD28C2) Version 6.1 product provides current data for 151 man-made reservoirs and 13 regulated natural lakes for a total of 164 reservoirs. The MYD28C2 Version 6.1 data product provides an 8-day time series of surface area, elevation, and water storage. Datasets are combined with pre-established Area-Elevation (A-E) curves and image classifications of near-infrared (NIR) reflectance from the surface reflectance product acquired by the Aqua satellite (MYD09Q1). The MYD28C2 data product contains a single layer with information about the reservoir identifier, dam location (longitude and latitude), reservoir area, elevation, and storage capacity. Known Issues * Water occurrence images generally show smaller surface area dynamics in high latitude regions, creating pixels with low occurrence values that have relatively large uncertainties. In addition, the quality of raw water area classification can be affected by lake ice coverage typically creating an overestimation of surface area in the enhancement algorithm. This issue will be addressed in a future release of the enhancement algorithm. For additional information about known issues, refer to Section 4 in the User Guide and MODIS/VIIRS Land Quality Assessment website.
