✦ Suggested by OrionAI**UNOSAT code: FL20211208COG** This map illustrates cumulative satellite-detected water using VIIRS in Republic of Congo between 03 to 07 December 2021 compared with the period between 26 to 30 November 2021. Within the cloud free analyzed areas of about 335,000 km2, a total of about 3,500 km2 of lands appear to be affected with flood waters. Water extent appears to have decreased of about 300 km2 since the period between 26 to 30 November 2021. Based on HRSL population data and the detected surface waters, the potentially exposed population of ~190,000 people is mainly located in department of Likouala with ~ 94,000 people, Brazzaville with ~ 70,000 people and Plateaux with ~10,000 people. This is a preliminary analysis and has not yet been validated in the field. Please send ground feedback to the United Nations Satellite Centre (UNOSAT).
**UNOSAT code: FL20240902NGA, GDACS ID: 1102720** This map illustrates cumulative satellite-detected water using VIIRS in Nigeria between 5 to 9 September 2024. Within the cloud free analyzed areas of about 815,000 km², a total of about 14,000 km² of lands appear to be affected with flood waters. Based on Worldpop population data and the maximum flood water extent, about 2,650,000 people are potentially exposed or living close to flooded areas. The pixelwise water fraction from VIIRS, using a 5-day composite at 375 m spatial resolution, indicates potential floodwater coverage ranging from 0% to 100%. This large-scale analysis is intended for guidance purposes and has not yet been validated with ground truth data or higher-resolution analysis. The population exposure analysis is based on floodwaters observed only in cloud-free areas, so the total number of people exposed may be underestimated. This is a preliminary analysis and has not yet been validated in the field. Please send ground feedback to the United Nations Satellite Centre (UNOSAT).
**UNOSAT code: FL20231229COD** This map illustrates satellite-detected surface waters and landslides in Kinshasa Province, Democratic Republic of The Congo, as observed from a Sentinel-2 image acquired on 28 December 2023, at 10:21 local time. Within the analysed area of 44,000 ha, approximately 3 ha of landslide scars are observed and about 460 ha of land appear to be flooded. Based on Worldpop population data, the detected surface waters and the landslide scar extent, about 25,000 people are potentially exposed or living close to landslide and flooded areas. This is a preliminary analysis and has not yet been validated in the field. Please provide ground feedback to the United Nations Satellite Centre (UNOSAT).
**UNOSAT code: FL20240102COG** This map illustrates satellite-detected surface waters and landslides/mudflow extent in Brazzaville and Pool Departments, Republic of Congo, as observed from a Sentinel-2 image acquired on 28 December 2023, at 10:21 local time. Within the analysed area of 30,000 ha, approximately 190 ha of landslide scars/mudflow extent are observed and about 230 ha of land appear to be flooded. Based on Worldpop population data, the detected surface waters and the landslide scar/mudflow extent, about 15,000 people are potentially exposed or living close to landslide and flooded areas. This is a preliminary analysis and has not yet been validated in the field. Please provide ground feedback to the United Nations Satellite Centre (UNOSAT).
**UNOSAT code: FL20240902NGA, GDACS ID: 1102720** This map illustrates cumulative satellite-detected water using VIIRS in Nigeria between 09 to 13 November 2024. Within the cloud free analysed areas of about 900,000 km², a total of about 22,000 km² of lands appear to be affected with flood waters. Maximum flood water extent appears to have receded of about 5,700 km² since the period between 27 to 31 October 2024. Based on Worldpop population data and the maximum flood water extent, about 5.8 million people remain potentially exposed or live close to flooded areas. The pixelwise water fraction from VIIRS, using a 5-day composite at 375 m spatial resolution, indicates potential floodwater coverage ranging from 0% to 100%. This large-scale analysis is intended for guidance purposes and has not yet been validated with ground truth data or higher- resolution analysis. The population exposure analysis is based on floodwaters observed only in cloud-free areas, so the total number of people exposed may be underestimated. This is a preliminary analysis and has not yet been validated in the field. Please send ground feedback to the United Nations Satellite Centre (UNOSAT).
