About this dataset

The ECMWF catalog of real-time products offers real-time meterological and oceanographic productions from the ECMWF forecast system. Users should consult the ECMWF Forecast User Guide for detailed information on each of the products. ## Overview of products The following diagram shows the publishing schedule of the various products. The vertical axis shows the various products, defined below, which are grouped by combinations of `stream`, `forecast type`, and `reference time`. The horizontal axis shows *forecast times* in 3-hour intervals out from the reference time. A black square over a particular forecast time, or step, indicates that a forecast is made for that forecast time, for that particular `stream`, `forecast type`, `reference time` combination. * **stream** is the forecasting system that produced the data. The values are available in the `ecmwf:stream` summary of the STAC collection. They are: * `enfo`: ensemble forecast, atmospheric fields * `mmsf`: multi-model seasonal forecasts fields from the ECMWF model only. * `oper`: high-resolution forecast, atmospheric fields * `scda`: short cut-off high-resolution forecast, atmospheric fields (also known as "high-frequency products") * `scwv`: short cut-off high-resolution forecast, ocean wave fields (also known as "high-frequency products") and * `waef`: ensemble forecast, ocean wave fields, * `wave`: wave model * **type** is the forecast type. The values are available in the `ecmwf:type` summary of the STAC collection. They are: * `fc`: forecast * `ef`: ensemble forecast * `pf`: ensemble probabilities * `tf`: trajectory forecast for tropical cyclone tracks * **reference time** is the hours after midnight when the model was run. Each stream / type will produce assets for different forecast times (steps from the reference datetime) depending on the reference time. Visit the ECMWF's User Guide for more details on each of the various products. Assets are available for the previous 30 days. ## Asset overview The data are provided as GRIB2 files. Additionally, index files are provided, which can be used to read subsets of the data from Azure Blob Storage. Within each `stream`, `forecast type`, `reference time`, the structure of the data are mostly consistent. Each GRIB2 file will have the same data variables, coordinates (aside from `time` as the *reference time* changes and `step` as the *forecast time* changes). The exception is the `enfo-ep` and `waef-ep` products, which have more `step`s in the 240-hour forecast than in the 360-hour forecast. See the example notebook for more on how to access the data. ## STAC metadata The Planetary Computer provides a single STAC item per GRIB2 file. Each GRIB2 file is global in extent, so every item has the same `bbox` and `geometry`. A few custom properties are available on each STAC item, which can be used in searches to narrow down the data to items of interest: * `ecmwf:stream`: The forecasting system (see above for definitions). The full set of values is available in the Collection's summaries. * `ecmwf:type`: The forecast type (see above for definitions). The full set of values is available in the Collection's summaries. * `ecmwf:step`: The offset from the reference datetime, expressed as ``, for example `"3h"` means "3 hours from the reference datetime". * `ecmwf:reference_datetime`: The datetime when the model was run. This indicates when the forecast *was made*, rather than when it's valid for. * `ecmwf:forecast_datetime`: The datetime for which the forecast is valid. This is also set as the item's `datetime`. See the example notebook for more on how to use the STAC metadata to query for particular data. ## Attribution The products listed and described on this page are available to the public and their use is governed by the Creative Commons CC-4.0-BY license and the ECMWF Terms of Use. Whole Atmosphere collection Met Office Global 10km deterministic weather forecast

This collection offers 14 whole-atmosphere parameters from the Met Office global deterministic 10km forecast. This is a numerical weather prediction forecast for the whole globe, with a resolution of approximately 0.09 degrees i.e. 10km (2,560 x 1,920 grid points). The data is available as NetCDF files. It's offered on a free, unsupported basis, so we don't recommend using it for any critical business purposes. ## Timesteps The following timesteps are available: * every hour from 0 to 54 hours (for most parameters, see parameter table for exceptions) * every 3 hours from 57 to 144 hours * every 6 hours from 150 to 168 hours ## Update Frequency The model is run four times each day, with forecast reference times of 00:00, 06:00, 12:00 and 18:00 (UTC). The runs at 00:00 and 12:00 provide data for the next 168 hours. The runs at 06:00 and 18:00 provide data for the next 67 hours. The forecast reference time represents the nominal data time or start time of a model forecast run, rather than the time when the data is available. ## Archive length and latency As of December 2025, the archive contains data from December 2023 onwards. Forecasts will continue to be available for at least two years from their data date. The data is typically available 6 hours after the model run time. ## Technical specs The data is available as NetCDF files. NetCDF (Network Common Data Form) is an interface for array-orientated data access and a library that supports the interface. It is composed of 3 components: * Variables store the data * Dimensions give relevant dimension information for the variables * Attributes provide auxiliary information about the variables or dataset itself NetCDF is used within the atmospheric and oceanic science communities and is network transparent, allowing for it to be accessed by computers that store integers, characters and floating-point numbers. Iris supports NetCDF files through reading, writing and handling. Iris implements a model based on the CF conventions, giving a format-agnostic interface for working with data. Find further support on using Iris with NetCDF files. ## Help us improve the data services we offer Join the Met Office research panel to help us understand how people interact with weather and climate data, uncover challenges and explore opportunities. ## How to cite Met Office global deterministic 10km forecast was accessed on DATE from the Microsoft Planetary Computer (https://zenodo.org/records/7261897). ## License British Crown copyright 2023-2025, the Met Office, is licensed under CC BY-SA. ## Providers Met Office See all datasets managed by Met Office. ## Contact [servicedesk@metoffice.gov.uk](mailto:servicedesk@metoffice.gov.uk). ECMWF SEAS5 Seasonal Forecasts - Anomalous Precipitation

This data can be used to identify how forecasted precipitation may differ from the long term average, for a given location and time of the year. These anomalies are calculated by the European Centre for Medium-Range Weather Forecasts (ECMWF) and are based on their SEAS5 seasonal precipitation forecast. SEAS5 is an ensemble forecast, meaning that the weather model outputs many possible scenarios, leading to probabilistic outcomes. The data presented here is the result of averaging all outputs (the “ensemble mean”). Additional postprocessing has been applied here to aggregate ECMWF’s gridded outputs across administrative boundaries (at both admin 0 and admin 1 levels). The gridded product can also be accessed from the Copernicus Climate Data Store (CDS). Data is available on the 5th of each month, with up to 6 months of lead time (including the current month). Anomaly values are in mm/month, with positive values indicating above average precipitation. The resources in this dataset include: - Full admin 0 historical record of anomalies (forecast_precipitation_anomalies_adm0.csv) - Recent admin 1 global anomalies (forecast_precipitation_anomalies_adm1_global_3yrs.csv) - Full admin 1 historical record of anomalies, separated by region (forecast_precipitation_anomalies_adm1_{region}.csv) - Geotiffs of anomalies based on latest forecast (forecast_precipitation_anomalies_geotiff_{forecast_date}.zip)

NOAA Nested-EAGLE (Global)

The nested-Experimental Artificial Intelligence (AI) Global and Limited-area Ensemble (nested-EAGLE) is part of the NOAA EAGLE product suite that is designed to bridge the skill of short and medium range weather forecasts (see arXiv for details). It is based on the Anemoi framework developed by the European Centre for Medium-Range Weather Forecasts (ECMWF) and partner agencies, and is trained on the combination a 0.25° Global Forecast System (GFS) data and 6-km High-Resolution Rapid Refresh (HRRR) data over CONUS that produces 10-day forecasts for a range of atmospheric variables. This work was a joint effort between NOAA Research Laboratories and the Earth Prediction Innovation Center (EPIC), and the National Weather Service (NWS). Project EAGLE provides NOAA, the weather enterprise (including government, industry, and academia), and the broader community members with the ability to rapidly test, develop, and demonstrate AI models for global and limited-area ensemble forecasting. For more information, please visit the EPIC website, EAGLE Overview page or the EAGLE repository on GitHub. The nested-EAGLE data are available as netCDF files. It's offered on a free, unsupported basis. We do not recommend using it for any critical operational purposes. Domain Information The nested-EAGLE global data is at a 0.25-degree resolution. To account for the nested grid, the high-resolution nest over the CONUS domain is upsampled by conservatively regridding it from the original 6-km resolution to the 0.25-degree grid. CONUS data at the original 6-km resolution is distributed in a separate collection (nested-eagle-conus). Technical Specifications Archive length October 1st, 2024 - Present Update frequency This model generates forecasts in near-real-time and is initialized 4 times daily for 00, 06, 12, and 18 Z cycles. Forecasts are typically available 6 hours after initialization time. Forecast length Ten days (240 hours) with predictions every 6 hours Levels 2D: surface, 10 meter, and 80 meter 3D: 100, 150, 200, 250, 300, 400, 500, 600, 700, 850, 925, and 1000 hPa Specs The data are stored as netCDF files, one netCDF file per forecast. See the example Jupyter notebooks for guidance on how to load the data.
