A Decarbonisation Zone (DZ) is a spatial area, in which a range of climate change mitigation measures are identified to contribute to meeting national climate action targets. DZs are a demonstration and testbed of what is possible for decarbonisation and climate action at a local and community level. Through a feedback loop of experimentation and evaluation, the DZ enables a flexible, incremental and community-driven approach to ensure that its objectives are delivered. Monaghan Town has been designated as the DZ for Monaghan County Council based on its socioeconomic and physical environmental characteristics which have been deemed an appropriate fit against a set of defined DZ criteria. The DZ area is shown on the map below. The Monaghan Town DZ area contains (or overlaps) 56 townlands, from Aghnasedagh in the east to Cornecassa in the west and from Derrynagrew in the north and Drumbear in the south. The International Best Track Archive for Climate Stewardship (IBTrACS) project is the most complete global collection of tropical cyclones available. It merges recent and historical tropical cyclone data from multiple agencies to create a unified, publicly available, best-track dataset that improves inter-agency comparisons. Fields available: SID: A unique storm identifier (SID) assigned by IBTrACS algorithm. ISO_TIME: Time of the observation in ISO format (YYYY-MM-DD hh:mm:ss) BASIN: Basin of the current storm position SUBBASIN: Sub-basin of the current storm position NATURE: Type of storm (a combination of the various types from the available sources) NUMBER: Number of the storm for the year (restarts at 1 for each year LAT: Mean position - latitude (a combination of the available positions) LON: Mean position - longitude (a combination of the available positions) WMO_WIND: Maximum sustained wind speed assigned by the responsible WMO agency WMO_PRES: Minimum central pressure assigned by the responsible WMO agency.
Polygon features giving the technical output, in gigawatt hours, for a 10MW offshore wind turbine, with contour minimum and maximum values. Published by the Department of Climate, Energy and the Environment and covering Ireland.
The NMPF’s climate change policies seek to support management of potential impacts of proposals in two ways. Firstly, the way in which the proposal may affect natural and / or physical features that play a role in mitigation (e.g. carbon sequestration) or adaptation (e.g. flood defence. Secondly the way in which the proposal has considered its own direct and indirect contributions to mitigation (e.g. measures included in the proposal to reduce emissions) and adaptation (e.g. ensuring the proposal is future-proofed in relation to changing operating conditions due to climate change).
Galway County Council Wind Potential produced as part of Galway County Development Plan 2022-2028. See Appendix 1 Local Authority Renewable Energy Strategy (LARES) and www.galway.ie for further details. The Strategy supports a plan led approach to WIND potential in County Galway and sets out the following areas: Strategic Area Acceptable in Principle Open to Consideration Generally to be Discouraged Not Normally Permissible It is the policy objective of Galway County Council to maximise wind potential development on a case by case basis, subject to meeting specific requirements and guidance contained within the strategy. Galway County Council has produced the County Galway Wind Energy Strategy as part of the Galway County Development Plan 2015 - 2021. See www.galway.ie for further details. The Strategy supports a plan led approach to wind energy development in County Galway and sets out Strategic Areas, Acceptable in Principle Areas, and Areas Open for Consideration and it is the policy of the Council to maximise wind energy development in all three of these areas, on a case by case basis, subject to meeting specific requirements and guidance contained within the strategy.
