Sudan climate and weather data

The International Best Track Archive for Climate Stewardship (IBTrACS) project is the most complete global collection of tropical cyclones available. It merges recent and historical tropical cyclone data from multiple agencies to create a unified, publicly available, best-track dataset that improves inter-agency comparisons. Fields available: SID: A unique storm identifier (SID) assigned by IBTrACS algorithm. ISO_TIME: Time of the observation in ISO format (YYYY-MM-DD hh:mm:ss) BASIN: Basin of the current storm position SUBBASIN: Sub-basin of the current storm position NATURE: Type of storm (a combination of the various types from the available sources) NUMBER: Number of the storm for the year (restarts at 1 for each year LAT: Mean position - latitude (a combination of the available positions) LON: Mean position - longitude (a combination of the available positions) WMO_WIND: Maximum sustained wind speed assigned by the responsible WMO agency WMO_PRES: Minimum central pressure assigned by the responsible WMO agency.

July precipitation anomalies from 2013–2016 for Sudan and South Sudan, which may have negatively affected agrarian populations during the lean season, are generated from NASA TRMM/TMPA 3P43 (Tropical Rainfall Measuring Mission/Multi-Satellite Precipitation Analysis). These anomalies are available to analyze in relation local population estimates (WorldPop), reported conflict events and fatalities (Armed Conflict Locations and Events Data Project), food security classification (Integrated Phase Classification, Famine Early Warning Systems Network), and other sources for measuring crop access to water (Climate Hazards Group InfraRed Precipitation with Station data). Data were compiled by Maimouna Kante and Lisa Jordan.

This layer contains information about the natural shock risk (floods and droughts) estimated during the Integrated Context Analysis (ICA) performed in Sudan in 2018. Data sources: UNEP/UNISDR GAR 2013, HQ VAM Analysis of CHIRPS Rainfall Estimates (RFE) 1982-2017.

This layer contains information about the drought risk - by second-level administrative area - estimated during the Integrated Context Analysis (ICA) run in Sudan in 2018. Data source: HQ VAM Analysis of Chirps Rainfall Estimates (RFE), 1982-2017. The main indicators used for the analysis were the number of poor growing seasons observed in the time window of interest and the inter-annual rainfall variability.

This layer contains information about the final categorization resulting from the Integrated Context Analysis (ICA) performed in Sudan in 2018, showing the areas of convergence of high levels of food insecurity recurrence and major propensity to natural shocks (floods and droughts).
