Premium Orion Datasets: official statistics, put on the map by OrionGIS

3 November 2026The OrionGIS team

Statistics tables from national statistics offices are now joined to administrative boundaries by OrionGIS, published as Premium Orion Datasets with full source attribution, and drawn on maps, pages and thumbnails.

Statistics offices publish their numbers as tables: a value per county, region or district, one row per year. A table alone cannot be drawn on a map, searched by area, or used in analysis without a lot of manual work.

OrionGIS now does that work for you. When OrionAI harvests a statistics table, it matches the area column to administrative boundaries — today's units first, then former units for older data — and turns the table into polygons a map can colour straight away. Every row keeps its value, every unmatched row is counted honestly, and the original publisher stays attributed with their licence and citation.

These derived products are Premium Orion Datasets, owned by Orion Terrametrics. You can see the marker on the dataset page, next to the publisher's name.

What this release brings:

  • The badge and the provenance. Premium Orion Datasets carry a gold badge on their pages and a Derived by row that names Orion Terrametrics, alongside the original publisher.
  • Every spatialized table now draws. The joined polygons appear on the dataset page, in the load dialog and in thumbnails — previously these records had no picture and no map.
  • Tables that cannot be placed still get a real preview, rendered from the data itself: title, publisher, columns and sample rows.
  • The backlog is being backfilled automatically, including thousands of statistics records harvested before the spatial gate existed.
