  • Colours that fit the climate. An elevation map now chooses its tints from the land cover of the area: tan lowlands where the land has almost no trees or crops, or much bare ground (Turkana, Wajir, the Sahel), green lowlands elsewhere. The result says which it chose and why. Ask for "humid" or "arid" colours to choose yourself.
  • Terrain panel in Map Studio. Select an elevation map and open its style: switch between humid and arid colours, between smooth colour and round-metre height bands, and set how strong the shaded relief is, then redraw. The map is redrawn from its own heights, so its area and outline stay exactly the same, and the key updates with it.
