Rainfall access uses the CHIRPS v3 archive
OrionAI 2.18.1Released 1 November 2026
OrionAI rainfall analysis uses CHIRPS v3.0 final monthly data, with versioned caching and explicit attribution. The catalogue also gains monthly and daily v3 records.
Changes since 2.18.0.
#Improved
- Rainfall analysis uses final CHIRPS v3.0 monthly data from the Climate Hazards Center's current archive. Results identify the version and cover land between 60°S and 60°N at 0.05° grid spacing.
- Monthly files are downloaded once and reused locally. Versioned cache names keep v2 and v3 rainfall values separate. Downloads identify OrionGIS, respect the existing refusal cool-off, and discard incomplete or oversized files.
- The CHIRPS catalogue manifest includes v3 monthly rainfall and separate daily reanalysis (
rnl, from 1981) and satellite (sat, from 1998) products. Daily records explain how rainfall is distributed from pentadal totals. Existing v2 records remain available.
#Fixed
- Invalid calendar months are rejected before a rainfall request is made. A final month that has not yet been published is reported accurately; final data normally arrive in the following month's third week.
Catalogue additions require the CHIRPS source to be harvested through the normal review workflow. Changing the archive path does not guarantee that a host previously refused by UCSB can download again.
