Boundaries from national agencies

OrionAI 2.35.0Released 7 November 2026

OrionGIS now draws statistics tables on boundaries published by national statistics and mapping agencies, filling levels it was missing for the UK, Australia and Ireland.

Changes since 2.34.0.

#New

  • More levels of areas. Tables can now be drawn on boundaries from national agencies, under open licences that need only attribution:

    • UK: local authority districts (2023, Office for National Statistics). Tables by district were matched to counties before, so about half their areas were left off the map.
    • Australia: Statistical Areas Levels 2, 3 and 4 (ASGS 2021, Australian Bureau of Statistics).
    • Ireland: counties and electoral divisions (2019, Tailte Éireann). Tables written with each area's county, such as "Abbey A, Limerick", are matched too.

Names written as "Bristol" now match boundaries named "Bristol, City of". When a table gives both an area's code and its name, the map uses the name column, as the publisher labelled it.

Tables already on the map keep the boundaries they were drawn on. The new boundaries reach them when they are re-processed.

  • Boundary questions for OrionAI. OrionAI can now say which boundaries OrionGIS holds for a country, which levels tables are waiting for, and which open sources could fill a gap.
