Dataset versions and clearer update notices

OrionAI 2.39.0Released 7 November 2026

The index keeps a version history for every dataset, and followers hear whether a dataset changed at its source, was re-processed by Orion, stopped passing as premium or was removed.

Changes since 2.38.0.

#New

  • Dataset versions. The index records a new version of a dataset each time it changes. That covers:

    • when it is first indexed;
    • when the publisher changes it at the source;
    • when Orion Terrametrics puts a re-processed version live.

    Each version keeps the source's own updated date, the processing and boundary versions, and the dataset's counts. It also keeps whether it passed the quality checks. It never keeps the data itself. Datasets indexed before this release start with their current state as their first version.

#Improved

  • Update notices for followed datasets. A notice now says:

    • whether the publisher changed the dataset or Orion re-processed it;
    • which version it is;
    • whether the dataset no longer passes the checks for an Orion premium dataset.

    You also hear when a dataset you follow is removed at its source.
