Open and share-alike licences count for premium datasets
OrionAI 2.41.0Released 7 November 2026
Datasets under "Other (Open)" and share-alike licences such as CC BY-SA and ODbL can now be premium Orion datasets, in every country. Boundaries under share-alike licences are credited and labelled in downloads.
Changes since 2.40.0.
#Improved
More licences qualify for premium datasets. A premium Orion dataset needs an open licence, from the publisher and from the boundaries it is drawn on. Two more kinds now count, in every country:
- "Other (Open)", which many statistics portals use;
- share-alike licences such as CC BY-SA and ODbL.
Non-commercial licences and licences OrionGIS can't recognise still don't count.
Boundaries under a share-alike licence can be used. The boundary finder now lists share-alike sets as usable instead of "to replace". It still flags sets with non-commercial or unknown licences.
#Credit and labelling
- Every row of a mapped table, on a map or in a download, carries the boundary set's credit and licence (
loc_boundary_credit,loc_boundary_licence). - A download drawn on a share-alike set also says so in its response (
X-Boundary-Licence,X-Boundary-Credit). - The ISO metadata's lineage names the boundaries' licence.
