✦ Suggested by OrionAIThis spatial dataset represents areas where resources may be extracted within the limits of the aggregate licence or permit for the associated site. Reporting requirements are optional, which means records will be sporadic and limited to certain areas of the province. Additional details related to aggregates in Ontario are available in related data classes as well as online using the interactive Pits and Quarries map. This dataset contains polygon features representing Crown Quarry Lease boundaries administered by the Department of Natural Resources. The dataset provides information on the location and extent of Crown Quarry Leases on Crown land and supports public understanding of Crown land tenure and resource management.
Site Regions and Site Districts of Ontario represent an early Ecological Land Classification (ELC) system originally developed by Angus Hills. This dataset was revised by the ELC Working Group in 2000 to better reflect new information and new technology. The Site Regions of Ontario was used for descriptive, planning, and resource management purposes. This upper level in its hierarchy was most useful for provincial and regional roll-ups of data and for strategic planning. Site Districts of Ontario is a more detailed lower (finer-scale) level of the hierarchy, and was more useful for detailed resource management prescriptions and other local and site planning applications. This layer is designed to be used as a spatial selection tool and as a background layer suitable for overlay and or intersection with numerous scales or current hydrologic data. “Mining concession” refers to an area allocated by a government or other body for the extraction of minerals. The terminology for these areas varies from country to country. “Concession” is used as a general term for licenses, permits, or other contracts that confer rights to private companies to manage and extract minerals from public lands; terminology varies at the national level, however, and includes mineral or mining "permits," "tenures," "licenses," and other terms. This data set displays mining concessions as a single layer assembled by aggregating concession data for multiple countries. The data may come from government agencies, NGOs, or other organizations and vary by date and source. Only active or available concessions are included in this layer. Inactive or expired concessions are excluded as defined by the dataset source.
