Form data as a map layer

Every form linked to a project shows up in its Data tab as a data layer, already populated with the form's submissions. You do not have to export anything or add it by hand.

#What you see for each form

• The form's name and a status: Layer ready, Table only or Not published.
• How many submissions it has, and which question locates them ("located by …").
• A live map preview with the submissions drawn as points, and a line such as "4 submissions on the map at 2 locations · 2 without a location". Click a point to see that submission's answers and a link to open it. Use Hide preview / Show preview to collapse the map.

#How locations are found

A form can record where something is in two ways, and OrionGIS recognises both:

1. A GPS question — a location, line or area question in the form. This is the usual way.
2. Latitude and longitude fields — two ordinary questions in the same group whose names differ only by a lat/lon word, such as facility_latitude and facility_longitude, gps_lat and gps_lon, or lat and lng. This covers forms that look coordinates up from a list instead of taking a GPS reading.

A submission with blank or invalid coordinates (or exactly 0, 0) is counted as without a location and is left off the map — it is never plotted in the wrong place.

If a form has more than one location question, open Settings on its row and choose which one to map.

#Layers on top of each other

If many submissions share one location — monthly reports from the same facility, say — their points sit on top of each other. The dots are semi-transparent, so a busier location looks darker, and clicking it tells you how many submissions are there.

#When a form is "Table only"

A form with no location question can't be drawn on a map, so it is listed as Table only with a View submissions link. Add a GPS question, or latitude and longitude fields, to the form and it becomes a map layer automatically.

#Settings for a form layer

Open Settings on a form's row:

• Location question to map — when there is more than one.
• Show approved submissions only — draw only submissions that have been reviewed and approved. See Review and export submissions.
• Answers shown on published maps — see below.

#Privacy when you publish

Your own maps in Map Studio show every answer. A published map never links back to live form data: it gets a frozen copy with locations only, plus only the answers you tick under Answers shown on published maps. Nothing is shared by default. See Publish and share a map.
