Orion Collect app for Android

Install Orion Collect on an Android phone, sign in with your OrionGIS account, fill in forms offline and send submissions to OrionGIS.

Updated 31 October 2026

Orion Collect is the Android app for filling in OrionForms in the field. It works offline: forms, drafts and finished submissions are kept on the phone, and submissions are sent to OrionGIS when the phone is back online.

Early access. The current version, 0.1.0-test2, is an Android test build. It is not on Google Play yet, so you install it from a download. Tell us about any problem at info@orionterrametrics.com or on GitHub.

#What you need

  • An Android phone or tablet running Android 8.0 or newer.
  • An OrionGIS account with at least one OrionForms project you own. The free plan includes 2 forms and 250 submissions a month; see Plans and billing.
  • A published form. See Create a form.

#Install the app

  1. On the phone, open orionterrametrics.com/product/orion-collect and tap Download for Android (about 44 MB). The file is orion-collect-0.1.0-test2.apk.
  2. Open the downloaded file. If Android asks, allow your browser or file manager to install unknown apps: Settings → Apps → Special app access → Install unknown apps, then choose the browser and turn on Allow from this source.
  3. Tap Install, then Open.

If you already have an earlier test build and the install fails with "App not installed", uninstall the old version first, then install again.

Check the download (optional). The SHA-256 checksum of orion-collect-0.1.0-test2.apk is:

You can connect the app in two ways.

#Sign in with OrionGIS (form owners)

  1. Open Orion Collect and tap Sign in with OrionGIS. You can also do this later from Add project.
  2. Enter your OrionGIS username and password.
  3. The app adds one project for each OrionForms project you own and downloads its forms. Forms stay in sync: new and updated forms appear automatically.

If you normally sign in to OrionGIS with Google or Microsoft, you do not have a password yet. Set one first: on the OrionGIS sign-in page choose Forgot password, follow the email, then use that password in the app.

Your password is used once to sign in. The app keeps a per-project device key, not your password.

#Scan a QR code (data collectors)

For field teams who should not have a full OrionGIS account, the form owner creates an app user for each collector on the form's page (App users → Create & Generate QR). In Orion Collect, choose Add project → Scan QR code and scan it. See Collect data in the field.

#Fill in a form

  1. Tap Start new form and choose the form.
  2. Answer the questions. Swipe or use Next to move between them. GPS questions record the phone's location; photo questions open the camera.
  3. At the end, save the form as finalized. Choose Save as draft instead if you need to come back to it.

You do not need signal for any of this.

#Send submissions

  • Finalized forms are sent automatically when the phone is online.
  • To send them yourself, tap Send finalized forms, select them and tap Send selected.

In OrionGIS, open the form to see its submissions. If the form has a GPS question, the submissions also appear as a layer on any project map the form is linked to. See Review and export submissions and Link forms to a project.

#Troubleshooting

ProblemWhat to do
"Incorrect username or password"Check the username (not your email, unless that is your username). If you use Google or Microsoft sign-in, set a password with Forgot password first.
Signed in but no forms appearThe app only adds OrionForms projects you own. Check that the form is published. If someone else owns the project, ask them for a QR code instead.
"App not installed"Uninstall any earlier Orion Collect test build, then install again.
Location is not recordedAllow Orion Collect to use precise location in the phone's app settings, and wait outdoors for the GPS fix.
Submissions stay in the outboxCheck the phone is online, then tap Send finalized forms.
