Quickstart: your first map in ten minutes

This walkthrough takes you from a new account to a published map with a share link. You will need a spatial file to hand (a GeoJSON, GeoPackage, GeoTIFF or zipped Shapefile) — or you can use a dataset from the catalogue instead.

#1. Create a project

1. Choose Projects in the sidebar, then New project.
2. Give it a name and a short description.
3. Pick a cover — a location on a map, an illustration or your own image — and create it.

#2. Add data

Open your project and go to the Data tab.

• Choose Upload Dataset and pick your file, or
• Choose Browse Catalogue and select a dataset to add to the project.

#3. Create a map from the data

In the Data tab, use Create map on your dataset. OrionGIS creates a map inside the project with that data already on it and opens Map Studio.

#4. Style it

In Map Studio, click your layer to change its colours, add labels, and choose a basemap. See Layers and styling.

#5. Publish and share

Open the Print Layout, set a title, and choose Publish. You get a share link you can send to anyone; they see your map without needing an account. See Publish and share a map.
